98 Civic DX clutch has dead spot and doesn't disengage fully

Default 98 Civic DX clutch has dead spot and doesn't disengage fully

Hey guys. I did some research on this problem and couldn't quite come up with a solution yet. My clutch pedal is dead about half way and then it starts to release the clutch. (Can't get it into any gear when the car is running) Bled and bled and bled the system til there were no bubbles coming out, and it was 100% fluid (Used a tube on the end of the bleeder), still have the problem

I diagnosed the Clutch Master Cylinder by pinching the rubber line off, and pushing the pedal. It was rock hard. There's no leaks anywhere

Replaced Clutch Slave Cylinder and still doesn't help.

Could the CMC still be faulty? What else could I possibly do before tearing into the transmission?

I checked, and with the pedal fully depressed, the fork wasn't moving very far, so when the pedal was fully pushed in, I took a pry bar and put pressure on the clutch fork, thus releasing the clutch fully. After I did that, I had full pressure on the pedal, and it worked beautifully for about a day, and then it went back to having a dead spot.

I'm all out of ideas here, and anything that could help would be super appreciated! Thanks in advance. I'll update this thread as we move on to possibly help anyone else that's having the same issue

Did you adjust clutch pedal travel properly?

I wonder if the spring is worn on the clutch fork... ^ this stands out to me as part of the problem.

But like NARC said...Have you adjusted your pedal play properly? If that is in spec, I would assume it's the spring.

There isn't a spring on the clutch fork. The small metal thingy in the middle of the clutch fork is only there to hold it on the pivot ball. The pressure plate is the primary return system for the clutch pedal, with the hydraulic system helping.

Yep, that isn't a return spring, it just holds the fork in place on the pivot ball, which is #2 on that diagram. Note the name: "Release fork setting."

Yep. Don't worry, I guarantee you aren't the only person who thinks that spring is a return.

OP, this is how you adjust pedal free travel. Do this.

Well, it was an easy fix! Someone must of replaced the master cylinder before, and the pedal was WAAAAY out of adjustment. I adjusted it and it has about an inch or so of free play (not exactly sure, but its not a whole lot) now and no dead spots. Bled it a few more times just for the sake of it being bled perfectly, and the clutch works like a dream! I can't believe I always looked over the adjustment.
