Default Automatic Build

This is probably a dumb idea.. but we'll see.

I'm looking too build up my 97 Civic (D16Y7)

I would like to be able to push just about 200whp...not to much.

Its about 190% increase in power, As i stated before its a D16Y7 engine.

Ive heard about people replacing the engine head with a Y8(vtec), adding a mini turbo...

but what could i really do??

Mind you its a Automatic setup

Possible but will be costly to maintain. I want to know if you're prepared financially?

Do a search on 5spd conversions, that way you won't have to go buy another car to replace your current one.

I don't know why so many people on here are so against automatics. Im doing a auto build too and i don't want to do that much increase but don't want the 90hp stock ether. Maybe combine a B18C1 to an auto B trans. (a JDM one exsists.)

Because we know what we're talking about. Because we know that there is no reasonable way to get any kind of real power adder through an autotragic, especially through a D series. It doesn't work mechanically, because the clutch packs can't handle it. It doesn't work software-wise, because you can't tune an automatic, OBD2 ECU. If you want a stock, autotragic B swap...sure, it's theoretically possible. And if you want to do all of that for a whole 25 horsepower, while still being able to be lazy and drive only two pedals, then by all means, go for it.

But don't expect to be able to build an autotragic D series to 200 WHP. At all. Period. Ever.

i drive over 100 miles a day just to commute back and forth to work in bumper to bumper traffic. Sometimes just rolling in D is better than riding the clutch. i may not even build for power i may just go for mpg. i don't care how "autotragic" the autos are. im doing it for the traffic. look at the modern autos that can out accelerate the best stick driver. i believe even that "million mile joe's" accord was automatic.

Would you like me to tell you all the ways you're wrong in numeric order, alphabetically, or in order of importance?

200 on a auto D isn't going to last long at all.

Plus have fun finding a tuning solution.

I'm not against it but if you're gonna stick to auto just be prepared for the additional repairs. You'll never think about babying the car after boosting it, you'll want to get on it so yes YOU HAVE TO BE PREPARED FINANCIALLY.

This. Do you plan on replacing the transmission weekly, or do you plan on buying a transmission that can handle it out of the box? Oh, did I mention those transmissions will cost you five to ten thousand dollars, and will require custom fabrication to even get them to mate with the engine?

If you want to boost an automatic than go for it and not worry about people judging you. Just be prepared financially because the auto wasn't meant to handle boost.

SIMPLE AS THAT.

If you want to sell off your ride to someone else after you damage the tranny than its karma whether you believe in it or not.

^^ Oh, and good luck finding a new way of tuning it. We're not simply hating on autos because its an auto - it isn't a supported platform for several reasons which have already been covered.

If you actually want to achieve this, you'll need a 5spd swap, a Mini-me conversion (VTEC head), and a turbo setup (which requires tuning).

The ONLY viable auto trans option i can see is using Nitrous...but that's stupid

You most certainly do not need a VTEC head, why would you even say that Schister?

There's always the piggyback route, but most just boost to a minimum of 6lbs. Piggyback can handle that I believe. Had a guy sell a rebuilt supercharged CRV with apex s-afc to tune. It was an awesome test drive.

You're probably right - for 200whp, its not required....wouldn't want to over-complicate this
