2000 SE Accord SRS light now on, best next steps?
My wifes 2000 Accord SE has the SRS light now on. I called the dealer about any recalls and they took my VIN and said no recalls apply to our Accord. I have read some safety belt issues have been the cause and have seen some how to's on clearing the light. I'm pretty sure if I take it in to the dealer to look at it'll cost close to 100 bucks just to have them look at it. Whats the smartest and safest approach here?
Is there a specific type of code reader for srs? I went by Advance Auto and asked if they could check it with the actron reader gizmo and they said it wouldnt read anything but engine light issues. They tried anyway and it came up with no codes after they did a scan.
Code readers for SRS codes might be hard to come by. There are some that "jump" pins on the OBD-II port with a paperclip or piece of wire. This will give you the codes without a reader.
My GUESS do nothing on a guess! The drivers side latch is causing the code - very common in the 6 th gen, Many have been able to clean the latch - wd40 and a rag and some time - and got the code to go away. Others have just replaced it with a new one - last I looked they were in the $75 range.
End of the day.....YES, get the code(s).

Yes the part the belt "clicks into". There is a "sensor" or sorts letting the car know the belt is latched. Since that latch sees the most use, time and dirt....it gets "gunked up" = technical term
. Again, some have cleaned it, some got lucky and the dealer took care of it and others just bought a new one.
Again it is a GUESS - DO NOTHING on a guess (ok cleaning it yourself doesn't cost much). Get the code(s). I only brought it up as it seems to be the most common issue with the SRS.
Do some google searches on the issue and I bet you will get several hits.

I followed what these 2 videos showed for retrieving SRS codes without a scanner.
and what I saw was flashing codes of 9 long flashes and 4 short flashes, which is a 9-4 code. Then I found the list of codes on this site here:
https://honda-tech.com/tech-misc-15/...-list-3111979/
So according to this I have a: 9-4 Faulty Passenger's Seat Belt Buckle Switch.
I called the dealership and explained the code and asked if its covered under lifetime warranty, the answer I got was its $59 to run scan and determine what needs to be repaired in the buckle. He said the lifetime warranty all depends on what part within the buckle is not working. Could be a pre tensioner he said. So some parts within the buckle that go bad arent covered under lifetime warranty. If it is covered then the scan wont be charged to me and replacement is free.
Also the ABS light--which wasnt on or a problem before--is signaling a code of 9 long and 7 short flashes. I cant find a list of ABS codes for a 2000 Accord, can anyone help me find them? Or is this flashing on ABS a result of jumping the wires to test the srs and meaningless maybe?
Here is a clip of what I saw when running the test.

I also have a 2000 SE accord. I subscribe to alldatadiy.com for about $30 per year and I can get all the info there is available on this car. From alldatadiy
"SRS INDICATOR LIGHT / SELF-DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
A self-diagnosis circuit is built into the SRS unit; when the ignition switch is turned ON (II), the SRS indicator light comes on and goes off after about six seconds if the system is operating normally.
If the light does not come on, does not go off after six seconds , or it comes on while driving, it indicates an abnormality in the system. The system must be inspected and repaired as soon as possible.
For battery serviceability, the memory will store the cause of the malfunction, and the data link circuit passes on the information from the memory to the data link connector (DLC). This information can be read with the Honda PGM Tester connected to the DLC (16P)."

OPDS Initialization With the PGM Tester and SCS Service Connector
1. Adjust the passenger's seat-back to a normal upright position, and remove anything that is on or near the seat.
2. If the seat is wet, start the engine, turn on the NC, close the doors and windows, and run the A/C in recirculation mode for 30 minutes. This will dry out any moisture that may be in the front passenger's seat.

I my 2003 coupe, if I buckle the drivers belt 'before' turning the key, the light goes out after the test is done. If I wiggle the belt latch or unlatch the belt the srs light come back on. The seatbelt light works only intermittently, so my problem is the switch too. But if I belt up before turning the ignition key on, all is good. I will eventually get to replacing or repairing the micro switch in the belt latch, but I have other more pressing problem currently.
