Default Need Help with 2000 Accord SRS Code

Hello all...

What a great forum you have here!

I've scoured the internet for clues to the code I'm getting from my Honda Accord, but have been unable to determine what the code is telling me. Can anyone here help out?

...thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

2000 Accord SRS light always on. Tried clearing the SRS light by jumpering the MES connector but the light is still on. I jumpered the service connector pins 8 to 13 (brown and black wires), turned the key on and got the following:
-SRS light on for 6 seconds
-3 or 4 really fast flashes
-5 long flashes
-3 short flashes
-light on solid

Is this a code 53 or is the 3 or 4 really fast flashes significant.

They don't necessarily mean the same thing just because their publicized description is identical. Most likely it references individual components in the SRS unit itself - possibly sections of the IC board or individual chips/capacitors/etc.

Personally, given it is an OBDII vehicle, I would take it by Honda and have them run their scanner against it to pull a more specific code and description.

Long flashes indicate the first digit and short flashes indicate the second digit. I've got a feeling, since the SRS light will come on solid when you first start the car, the light didn't blink because it was initializing the system. The code presented (Assuming that's what it is) is 53.

Thanks MM. I actually took it into a Honda dealership. Here is their exact response on my invoice:

- No communicating with Honda Diagnostic System (HDS)
Possible SRS unit will need to trace wires
Diag to start 198.00 may be more depends on time takes to diag -

Maybe I'm wrong, but I felt like I was getting screwed, so I left. I had a very hard time believing that they were unable to communicate with the car.

I guess I could take it to another dealership...not sure yet.

Given that, its possible the entire unit and/or its communication ports are toast. You can replace a SRS unit yourself without any issue, but I would recommend buying a BNIB OEM Honda one from Majestic Honda online or similar. Turn off the vehicle, have the battery unplugged and give it some time to drain the power, then simply unbolt and swap the units. I did my fiancee's '07 Accord like this when her airbags deployed. The unit itself was ~$200 IIRC and only took about an hour to swap it. I would imagine yours is in a similar location behind the dashboard.

I was having the same issue. My Honda civic 2005 LX automatic has its airbag light on for a couple of weeks. I first tried to reset it but was unsuccessful so I checked the battery and it was bad. So after I changed the battery the light was still on. I tried to reset it using the paper clip method but still same. I found out the code was 5-2 (internal failure of SRS unit). So I decided to change the SRS unit and changed it but the light never came off. I also tried changing the instrument panel just if that helps but still same. Then I found out that the alternator might cause srs code but when it was checked the alternator was fine (14.4 volt with ignition on). The code is 5-2. Anyone has any idea? The Honda dealers couldn't figure it out so they say they need to replace the entire front for $2000 + labor. That is expensive. If anyone has any idea help please.
Thanks.

Do you still have this car/ problem? I've recently figured out a good way of getting down to the problem with the srs errors in these cars. It could take a while, but not nearly as crazy as replacing all of the things you decided to :/
