Default Hi from B.C. - EG HB build thread LST

Hi everyone , My name is Jake from British Columbia, thought id share my build. This is still a work in progress, but then when is a project ever over?
So this is a budget build, i support a family on a single income and have had to be resourceful for this. With exceptions to 2/3 of the body work and laying the paint, i have done all other work myself. Wiring, electrical, fab work, alignment etc.
I have lurked Honda-tech for tons of info over the years. Tons of great resource here! thanks!

Here it starts, found this fairly clean eg for 300$, motor was shot and interior was dirty. But minimal rust.

After sitting for a few weeks, someone backed into the hood. good excuse to do some body work.

So it begins, My Dad, Uncle and myself did the body work, my Dad sprayed it.

I traded labour and 200$ for these 15" Konig heliums, And color matched to the car.

Much better

Skunk 2 Pro S v 2 and upper control arms
Ordered from Teknotik and Image in motion

I drove it like this for the summer. Only added Carbon duckbill spoiler, H.I.Ds Dark amber corners and some interior mods. Very happy with it so far,

I parked my car for winter and learned a lesson on how not to winterize a vehicle

This was just the half of it, Car was disgusting. Oh well. Good excuse tackle it.

Gutted interior except for Dash and door panels, everything was cleaned and pressure washed.

I put new under lay in as well before carpet went back down, Interior progress pics further down as mods come.

So i have had many parts cars to support this build, i would buy them keep minimal items, and sell off the rest to get my money back... Repeat.
I traded parts for ASR subframe brace, not sure if it is legit or replica
Bought benen front and rear tow hooks. under 100$ local guy.
I had a GSR parts car had to sell motor but kept tranny and axles, front and rear disc brakes with knuckles and trailing arms. Sway bars. Master and booster. I did stainless braided lines under 100$, Proportioning valve from a DA teg. And polyurethane bushings throughout. A friend sold me bushing kit for 50$ that he could not return

I added a backyard special replica front lip, and pulled motor to start a B swap. Notice 13" steelies. This was before finishing brake upgrade. 13s will not clear DC front brakes.

Image in motion christmas special. I think these were around 150$

I worked side jobs and sold parts to pay for these. ACT clutch and lightened flywheel.

Ive had H22 swaps, B18c1 and others fall into my lap, but bills have always forced me to sell em. So this donor b18a was near free. This wont be a permanent solution for this car. But will do till it blows.

At least i got the GSR tranny from a parts car. Was happy to find out it had no grinds and cleaned up nicely.

I did this a few years ago now, I used a b18a from 93 teg, with b18b intake manifold and injectors. other bits and pieced from multiple b18s to make it work again. New t-belt and water pump. tune up etc.

Finally alive. Runs good. Seems to burn a bit of oil off throttle and then on again at higher rpm. Suspect valve seals as Vacuum is high then. Too lazy to do know. Future jakes problem.

I did this leg of the build at my dads house, big shout out to him for all the support and help with the body.

This was at my old work. Also sprung for new tread, BF goodrich g force2. Fortunate to own the snap on box in the background. Did the alignment here.

So my mom just bought a house and gave me full access to the garage for the next leg of this build. I have always wanted to learn how to weld, so i bought a Lincoln Mig welder and decided to set up shop here. Time for boost

Also time for bed. will continue this later in the week. Any feedback is appreciated.

Maybe down south in California, but up here in BC Hondas rust out like crazy. We get our fair share of road salt in the winter months.

Cars on the island and coast are some the cleanest rust free cars I've seen. I'm from BC as well and have bought a car from Victoria before. It was a 97 accord with zero rust.

All of other regions of BC are a rust belt for sure. Gotta wash mine soon.

Thanks, i lucked out with this one, Im the third owner and it was garage kept most of its life, also was undercoated early on. Their are a lot of rusty hondas around where i live. Vancouver island.

Ya shes divorced, but also sold this house in just over a year lol. And my car is rusting away in a tent shed now

Nice and clean.. And thank you for not stancing it..!
Thanks, i like a bit of stance. But this is more of a track inspired build, future it will be full cage.

So a buddy of mine sold me a no name turbo manifold, t3t4 turbo, wastegate, greddy BOV, apexi safc, air filter and flanges for under 200$ . Ya its nothing fancy, but cant be choosy right now. So i started building the boost.

Near where i live, on Vancouver island. Just to represent B.C.

just starting to test fit

Picked up a Precision intercooler for 100$ will fit nicely

So i set up my lincoln welder and was too eager to wait for a bottle of Gas. Decided to play with the flux core... which seriously sucks and i bought a bottle of Gas the next day. But this is my coolant catch can.

Test fit

So goals for this leg of the build. Relocate battery to trunk, partial wire tuck, relocate fuse panel to cabin, delete power steering, delete windshield washer, and a clean turbo install. I know the turbo parts are cheap. But this project is to teach myself fabrication and how to tune. When i blow this setup up, thats when i will shell out $$ for a proper setup.

Just getting ready to pull the dash

so cluttered

started deleting. looking much cleaner already

Its hard to find time for this build, i work full time and overtime often, and have a wife and kid to spend a lot of time with. But i find staying up friday nights with coffee or beer is the best time to get stuff done

working on wiring, thats just a spare harness on the ground. needed some plugs and pieces

Built a mount for fuse panel out of some random brackets kicking around.

I bought some bends and was eager to start welding. I mounted my intercooler and decided to just jump into welding without learning the settings on my machine first. that was a mistake. burnt a hole in my intercooler mount bracket.

i bought all Green Mishimoto couplers and mishimoto clamps for it. Green accents to match lug nuts and Takata harness sitting in my closet

Yup ... im doin pie cuts. I figure it would give me more surface area to practice welding on... and i find it really fun doing this plumbing

A friend changed his mind on his build, these were new in box. Think i payed 100

Through a series of trades i came across another set of 15" heliums in silver. A quick trip to dads and they were color matched to my valve cover.

So i decided to dump the wastegate out the side of my bumper

Cut a hole in the bumper and started trimming for charge pipes and intercooler. It took a longggg time to trim everything. i didnt want to do too much. I found the best way to cut the plastic was to scribe it multiple times with a razor and snap it off.

i used some spare neochrome extended lug nuts to mount my intercooler. They just poke threw the bumper. match my neochrome subframe brace in the rear, i like small details that can be easily overlooked.

all tacked up and ready to final assemble my waste gate dump.

Finished my first piece of the puzzle, felt good to actually get something done.

Heat wraped turbo manifold. I love the look of heat wrap.

finished wiring finally. It was a lot of work, but well worth it for a cleaner bay

It was around this time my mom told me she was selling the house and i had to hurry this project up. Funds where already non existent, so real engine management would have to wait, but i had a apexi safc that i had no luck selling. So figured i would use it just for a month to make my car mobile, winter was coming.
Also my buddy from work really hooked me up with a AEM wideband gauge and sensor, in box used once for 60$!! sweeet

Started downpipe

tons of room

built the top half, and got the lower piece with flex pipe and o2 bungs for 25$

washed the bay by hand and hit it with spray paint. came out pretty good i considering how little effort it took

Welded my drain bung to oil pan and hit charge pipes with spray paint

I didnt have a BOV flange so i made one from scratch, i dont have the tools to do this efficiently so it was a pain in the ***, but its done.

turbo drain

Test fitting with radiator

another buddy hooked me up these Nitto NeoGen tires for 280$ almost brand new. He also gave me DSM injectors for my car for 50$

Finally fired it up and gave it a bath. Was just covered in metal shavings from cutting pipe. Also running it with no exhaust right now. My neighbors love me haha

side shot to show off wheels

Going to start exhaust now

I built this 3" exhaust, fabed it while laying on my back on a creeper under my car. Was the most frustrating part of this build so far. Buddy gave me a muffler for free so this whole exhaust was like 30$

Well its finally ready for a road test, got a mishimoto slim fan, was a tight fit. Had a issue with turbo oil feed line leaking, but fixed that. And i couldnt get my car to idle or run worth ****, scratching my head for a long time with the apexi safc. I had a check engine light for o2 heater circuit, so decided to resolve that first. Ended up my o2 was ok and circuits checked out. My ecu had failed and was the problem. Pulled the ecu from my DC 4 door daily and vehicle idles fine and runs.

So waste gate spring was good for 6psi, i played with the apexi a lot and it is half *** decent at best. On throttle at wide open it runs fine but rich, it idles ok and cruises good, but accelerating with only part throttle it doesnt like. Anyways i insured it for a month just to move it to storage. still saving for engine management. Either hondata s300 or neptune rtp... Any opinions?

Last day at the garage before mom sold the house

sir gauge cluster, auto meter boost, aem wide band. Future will have more gauges, buckets , my takata harness and cage.

So as off right now car is off the road and i am saving for engine management .
Also building a oil catch can, boost controller, and vacuum manifold. I plan on boosting 12ish psi this summer and doing all tuning myself as this was the initial goal... might blow it up ... well hope i do, but at the end of summer because i drive the **** out of this car.

Ironic you guys are hating on my "Haters gonna Hate" sticker lol . It will stay, cant make everyone happy with your build , why try.
