Default for you vibrant muffler users

how many miles do you have/get out of your vibrant flat black mufflers? i have 30 something thousand miles on mine and recently it noticeably changed sound and got louder. i think it may have lost some of the packing. anyone have a similar experience?

That's about right. I'm sorry I ever bought one. It got louder and more readout. Luckily the car it was on was sold to someone who didn't care about sound

If you got the black "stealth" series or whatever, the good sound lasts about a year, maybe two max. Then......

eh, not what i really wanted to hear but not surprised. i guess im comforted that i got about the normal amount of use out of it. I just ordered another one off amazon for like 90 bucks shipped. my exhaust is all custom i made with a cat, flex, and all v band connectors so i didnt want to lose all that other work and get a new exhaust/axleback

Vibrant also sells larger resonators that may tone it back down. They pull more resonance and sound then the standard bottle resonators do but if you got a line on a new muffler thats probably the best course.

Yet another reason I love my Thrush Turbo muffler. Still working great, many years later.

yeah... And if their muffler baffling is any indication of how good their resonators are, then in 2 years, you'll have two items sounding bad.

True. As a cheaper alternative to a full catback i guess that is the trade off. Pay now or pay later.

Or pay less only once and get something that doesn't fall apart in a year, at all.

*cough*

ive used the vibrant resonator the exhaust had a rasp in a bad way. I cut it out and replaced it with a magnaflow long round muffler and the exhaust as a whole sounded a ton better, till the muffler fell apart lol

So whats causing these vibrant, hot item by most, to go bad so quickly. Is it the material they use to build these mufflers?

Over time the sound absorption packing wears out do to the gasses and heat. Once to a certain level it doesnt muffle sound at the level it should.

Isn't muffler packing just fiberglass? I thought the moisture was a contributing factor as well.

It is, from sitting in a garage, older catalytic converter, (or none at all), etc.

Like with anything else, if the sound absorption packs are of lower quality materials, (Yes, even fiberglass has several levels of quality), then it can go bad faster than most. that's what you're not paying for... Unlike Magnaflow, Flowmaster, the classic japanese muffler companies, etc.
