Default D16y8 from Canada 98 Civic Si swapped into 00 Civic SE - won't start

So i crashed my 98 civic ex (si in canada) with a d16y8 and bought a 2000 se (not sure what trim package that is in us) with a blown d16y7. I put the d16y8 in the 2000 and used the 98 engine harness and ecu. hooked it all up and i get power for radio dash etc. no fuel pump or turn over. It turns over if i jump the starter solenoid but will not fire because the fuel pump doesn't run. I knew there would be a difference of the obd2a & b but thought it wouldn't matter if I used the right harness and ecu?? the way I see it is I can either change the engine harness and ecu or change the dash wiring which goes to the ecu. please any info will help

thanks

additional info, one of the shift solenoids was damaged in the crash and wont plug in, any possibility this would stop it from turning over?

Bingo.

I don't know off hand the exact differences but you would be wise to research what is actually different (probably something you should've done first but oh well).

Can't use that engine harness, either find a 99-00 Si (EX) harness or use the SE harness and do the needed additions. Then use an ECU adapter OBD2B-A. You could also swap dash harnesses and still use the 98 but that's a real pain in the ***.

OP thought wrong, obd2a and obd2b are different. You already know what needs to be done so get to it.

Alright good info. Before working on this car I wasn't even aware of obd2a& b. Is this just something honda has done or is obd2 b the standard?

Also if I change the dash wiring harness, does anyone know if there are any major incompatibilities between that harness and the floor harness?

It was always like that, after 98 the civics became obd2b. The plugs may look the same but the pinouts have different functions.

Yea the first thing i knew i had to do was change the main wiring harness which is located behind the dashboard which was deffinitly nessecary. From there it became a can of worms. You could probably make it work from there on if you dont mind doing some splicing since the rest of the conponents are practically identical except they are wired a little different and none of the connectors will match. I had all the harnesses and didnt want to splice anything. But the main wiring harness is probably the most important one to worry about, and the hardest one to get to lol

So you put all obd2a wiring in the car... Or what lol money is not a issue on my end I hate splicing and all that I'd rather wait for shipping lol

you will need obd2a harnesses since the engine is from a 98. Alternativley I think you could use a obd2b harness on the engine with a different ecu

Ao your saying use a obd2a interior harness I was just gonna go get a obd2b engine harness and then go buy the appropriate jumper harnesses for everything what did you do to make yours work juat a obd2a interior harness
