Default B16a2 Go-Autoworks turbo project

So, I recently got a good deal on a B16a2 short block with stock internals and ITR cams here in Norway. Yes, I am from Norway, so excuse my bad english.

Anyway, I paid about $300 for it and are gonna pick it up in about 2 weeks from now. My plan on this build is nothing big, but 400-450whp with my kit. I allready have a Go-Autoworks 500hp D-series kit for my D16, so imma gonna use the most parts from it on this build. Rest of the needed parts will be ordered when I need them.

My clutch is gonna be replaced with a new one, delivered from Action Clutch. I have spoken alot with Eric @actionclutch and he gives me good prices, great customer service and real quality parts.

I am also looking for a set of forged .5 overbore pistons and rods, so if someone have anything to sell, let me know!

Gonna take alot of pics as soon as the parts arrive.

Oh, it's gonna be used in my 97 Civic Pro-Tec coupe.
Here is a pic on how it looks right now. Don't mind the bumpers, they are gonna be painted ASAP!

I am sorry for waiting so long. There has been a long christmas with family, friends and other styff. I do however had some time to work a bit on the engine. I was descided for 4 days ago that I will leave the engine stock for now and only push it to 350-400whp with my kit. So I was actually ready to buy a head and start assembling everything together. I placed the engine in my engine stand and was ready to drain all the oil out. It was filled with water and other greasy stuff, so I decided to open it and have a look. The first thing I found was 2 nuts, and a loose oil pick-up. Damn, I am glad I took off the oil pan. I disassembled the rest and found 2 spunned bearings at cylinder 2 and a set of piston rings that was sticked to the piston. This engine must have had a tough life. I took all the parts and the engine to my job and wash it all to get rid of any old oil, mud, paint and other stuff I don't want on my new engine.

I have also been working on a battery tray, since I am moving my battery, I don't have any space left in the thrunk. so I had to move it to the inside of my front bumper.

I took some pictures of the engine dissambly. I hope you like it.

I am sorry for the shitty picture. I used my phone on some og them.

There is a bit of rust on the top of some cylinders. It's not much , so it seems like it's enough to hone the cylinders.

Here's some pics of the bad bearings. The others looks like I was thinking, but this was bad!

Main bearings looks good, but it's gonna be replaced anyway.

Here are the cams i got. They are actually in very good condition!

And here is some pics of the battery tray I am making. Gonna weld it together later today and see how it turns out. The metal was free, since we had some pieces left at my job.

And this is how it's gonna look like when it's welded.

Looks like a solid start. What is going on with the chassis?

I am replacing a bad hand brake wire, and doing a simple wire tuck for the head lights right now.

I am gonna use a B16a2 head, because of the shape of the combustion chamber. It's gonna be stock for now, while I save up some money for porting and other stuff.

Clean the ports, sure.. Port & polish, not needed.

It is possible to reach 400whp on stock head, so it's not something I must do. The only reason is to get earlier spool, since this is a daily.

I bought a few parts last Friday for my car.
I can't remember them all, but it was a oil catch can, rear LCA, bumper lip and other parts. I bought it from a guy in t he U.K who sold it thru his business that is now closed. So everything is new. I spent way under 50% of what it would cost elsewhere. It is some brand name like D1 spec, Sickspeed, Skunk2, BWR and simmilar. I'il take some photos when parts arriving my door. It may take 1-2 weeks.

Stay tuned guys!

That still won't aid in your "spool up". That' based upon turbo sizing and tuning. For a B16, that won't help.

Okay. If there's no need to port the head, I'il just leave it as it is. It's cheaper and will work fine for me anyway

I am gonna use the same turbo as I have for my D16. A T3/T04B with .63AR iirc.
Anyway, 350whp is not a problem with my setup and a good tune. There is only one guy here in Norway who really knows Honda's well. He own the company RaceLab and have been workinng on Honda's for more than 15 years and have the right knowledge. So I am pretty safe with him.

I have been able to relocate some wires the past few days. It's so bloody cold outside that I haven't had energy to do much. Since I have a set of lamboo doors, I can't relocate the wires thru the rubber like everyone else. So I just took ut thru the wall behind the strut top. I also did a sticker bomb on my new fender. I haven't been able to paint them yet, so I'il just leave it there for now.

I have also been able to bleed the brakes, so it's now ready for the norwegian MOT. I hope everything goes well.

Wish me good luck guys and stay tuned!

Let it be known there are two vtec b series heads and either will work, BUT, if you are talking about efficiency of the burn due to combustion design, the p72 GSR head is the better choice for sure! The square quench area allows for better combustion under boost conditions, and less chance of destination over the pr3 b16 head. Even when Moroso released their performance head design, they used a p72 as a base

I am gonna use a B18c4 head. Not sure what the head code of it is, but I assume you know what head it is.

The guy also have a set of rear brakes from a 99SI, so I have been able to get a good deal on that aswell. But that's gonna be later this year, since he need to part out the car first. It's with new discs and pads and remanufactured calipers, new abs rings and sensors and hand brake wire.

So now, there is things happening the next few months. I am gonna get that head in 2 weeks.
I am also gonna deliver the block and crank to see if I can run STD bearings or of I have to go oversize. The block needs to be bored .20" over for mew pistons, so I'il just deliver all the parts at the same time to the machine shop.

Here are some pics of the head

Parts that follows the head are throttle body, distributor, intake manofold with injectors, cams and vtec valve, power steering pump and series alternator.

I got it all for $400

I have been working in a wire tuck and engine bay shaving the last couple weeks. I have now removed all the ABS connectors and the fuse box for ABS. Everything have been moved into the coupe and being installed under the dash. Next project is to relocate the big black fusebox, but that's probably not until next week or so. I am gonna do a AC delete and buy the needed tubes from the heater blover from a Civic that came without AC. I'il also gonna look into how it is to relocate the PS fluid reservoir and route the houses so it's not that visible. I may try to hide it behind the bumper, where the window wiper reservoir is located. Not sure if it will give me any issues when I bleed the system, so I have to look into that first.

I have also relocated the head light wiring, so ot's now invisible.

Later today I am gonna look at the stock fuel rail and see if I can modify it a bit so I can turn my injectors 180* so the connectors as not visible. I think I have to grind the fuelrail a bit. Gonna take some photos of it when I get started and post them here when i'm done.

I have also been changine some bolts with the type who have big red washers. I am coming back with pics of every spot I ued them.
Here are some pics from the last weeks work.

Here is a sneak peak about the washer install

Headlight wiring relocated

The ABS fuse box on it's way to his new spot.

Some more washers
