I have a 92 civic hatchback with a b20 vtec engine. b20b bottom end and b16a head. The car has a bog and a jerkyness to it and low rpms and pulls hard at high rpms. The car also wont really get out of its own way until it is completely warmed up. It also seems its getting really bad gas mileage. Ive replaced everything i can think of that could cause the issues. Any ideas?

 

Has it been dyno tuned?

 

Has it been tuned at all?

Mechanical timing?

What is the distributor timing?

 

I have the same problem from a car I just picked up. B20B HATCH. Pulls hard when warm, bogs and sputters when cold. Interested in responses.
I'm gonna get a p75 ecu first, as I looked yesterday and there is a p30 ecu on it now. Tune in the future.

First poster comes into the engine management forum, list his engine info, makes no mention of engine management or ecu, and wants a diagnosis.

Second poster has entirely the wrong ecu in the car and wants a diagnosis.

Let me get out my Sherlock Holmes hat.

 

The car has a chipped and tuned p28 ecu. I am compression testing it this weekend because it shows the symptoms of just that. It hasnt been letting me reply hence the reason i havnt said anything back. I have replace everything you can think of. Fuel pump,fuel filter, distributor, timing, plugs, wires, cleaned all grounds, fuses, main relay, etc.

 

Each morning I have to let the car idle for 10 minutes before i drive it or else it wont get out of its own way. Has extremelly crappy gas mileage. got 81 miles off of $10 of premium. Still doesnt have all of its power when warm either. It has enough to pass someone but you can tell its lacking it. from 1k-4500 it has loss of power and once it crosses vtec it will start to pull hard.

 

You say it has a chipped and tuned p28. But was it tuned for YOUR car?? Or did you just buy it from some dude off craigslist and plug it in?

it's obviously not tuned for your engine. at this point, it may have damaged the engine also. put a stock ECU in it, address any trouble codes. if those are fixed (and your engine light actually works) and your base timing and compression is on, it's time to tune.
