Hey all,

I'm having issues with the reverse wire in my car.

Here are the symptoms I am having:

1. I put my car's gear shifter into reverse. Everything works fine.

2. I put my car's gear shifter into reverse and then turn on my headlights. The reverse light shuts OFF. I turned off my headlights, the reverse wire turns back ON.

3. When I turn on the headlight switch, I can also hear the fuel pump prime simultaneously.

4. When I turn the headlight toggle switch on WITHOUT being in reverse, the reverse wire becomes active. I know this because my backup camera was wired to the harness in the dash for the reverse light. The camera would turn on when I turn my headlights on. However, the reverse light itself would not illuminate unless I was in R with the headlights switch of.

My wiring is all stock, and I can confirm none of my accessories have compromised any wiring harnesses, etc.

This issue also was around when I initially received the car.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

What accessories do you have? Did you do the wiring?

 

It was just a backup camera, that's all. Mind you, these issues were present before the camera was installed. I didn't know the wiring personally, but I know where it's hooked into. I know enough about electronics to know the camera has nothing to do with this particular problem.

 

Does anything funny happen when just the parking lights are on and not the headlamps? Automatic or manual? Seems like automatic from your post, just checking though.

 

When electrics/electronics go nuts like this first thing to do is CHECK YOUR GROUNDS. Then check all your fuses.

 

My car is a manual. No, there are no extra issues when just the parking lights are on. It produces the same issue with the headlights either on or off. As soon as you click the headlight switch to position ONE (parking lights only) and beyond, that's when the issue takes place.

The fuses are fine in the car. I just can't understand why the fuel pump turns on with my headlight combination switch...

 

Honda just looked at my car today. They said the cause was because of 2 factors. 1. The harness to the taillights were wrong and have an extra wire on them that is feeding back to the car. I think they said it was ground. 2. The bulb is a double filament and not a single (or the other way around). I'm going back Friday and it should be all fixed up. Finally!
