Default b20 vtec advice wanted

Here's the run down: b20 vtec. B16a3 head on b20b bottom end. All stock internals(gsr cams).

This is a D.D and I don't drive very hard all the time. Just when the moment's right. All I really want is high compression pistons and maybe stage 1 cams. And of course s300 with tune.

So my questions are: 1. Is it necessary to have the block sleeved?(for reliability) 2. What would be a good piston and camshaft combo?
All help is greatly appreciated.

Why do you want to DD a stock really high compression motor?

I might be under the wrong impression. Since I'm not going turbo, i thought going from the low compression to high would help with power in the low rpm range.

Plenty of build threads in this forum for stock sleeve B20 builds making great power as DD. My thread is a good example of a higher end "budget" setup. 43! has a nice setup. Slowsleeper has some nice B20V builds as well. Use the search bar up top and go through the dyno thread.

My build is a stock crank/rods w/ ARP bolts and cast pistons. Stock port head. Just has nice supporting mods. 12's came pretty easy with bugs still being worked out.

If you want stage one cams you could leave the block stock. Pick a cam under 12mm lift and since you're using a b20 block, under 260 duration. The crower 63402-2 seems to be ok.

Those Crower cams have sexy fat mid-range. My tuner described it as party zone. I agree with everyone else, no need for sleeves. Just don't beat on it at low rpm.
