Default B20/Vtec question

I was reading an old article that i had in a magazine at my house and this company did a B20/Vtec using the stock pistons off the B20. The upgraded the oil and water pumps to Vtec. And they just put on a B16 head.
I was wondering if anyone has done this and what is the ending Horse power ? Torque? But most of all i was wondering how long did it last ?

A good place to check out CR-VTEC motors is http://www.importview.com/ Goto their dyno section, and it has lots of different 2.0L set-ups. I personally wouldn't use the stock B20 pistons for anything, it just doesn't make sense if you think about it.

Say you're doing this set-up, you already have the motor apart in pieces. If you're going naturally aspirated, you need higher compression anyway. The B20B was the '97-'98 motor which had a 8.8:1 Compression ratio, and the B20Z started in 1999 and had a 9.6:1 compression ratio. Neither are good for naturally aspirated applications, but if you go turbo the CR is alright (maybe a bit low for the B20B and a bit high for the B20Z) but since you're building the motor, forged aftermarket slugs would be a better option.

They last just about as long as an LS/VTEC would, and a lot has to do with who's building it and if they know what they're doing or not.

Doing a B20 or LS vtec with the pistons that come stock in the block (low CR) is a complete waste of time and money... you will not see anything near the Hp that you might expect. If you're looking to do a frankenstein, you should at least go with a higher comp piston. Stock GSR,B16,type R or CTR pistons will do the job nicely and not too expensive.

Would you be able to put stock GSR, B16, ITR, or CTR pistons into a B20 block? I don't think pistons from a 1.6 or 1.8 liter block would fit in a 2.0 block. Aren't the bores different sizes?

bores are different sizes and a B20 slugs wont take the 81mm slugs from a B series 1.6 or 1.8

What do you guys think of just putting the b20z in, it would be like a much better LS swap, with the specs it has. Maybe in a HB you could get high 14's stock as oppesed to the LS in a HB where its low 15's stock. Let me know what you guys think, i mean say you wanted a ls swap but wouldnt you go with the b20z insted of the ls.

The price of a properly built reliable frankenstein engine is about the same cost as just adding a turbo. For parts you just buy a turbo kit, or a big list of **** that'll end up nickel and diming you to death, that is if you want it to last. Just go with a b20 turbo. You'll be fast.
