Del Sol B16 swap questions
All,
Please forgive my newness/ignorance as I'm not a Honda guy, I was just given a 96 Del Sol that I am trying to get it back on the road and bullet proof before my daughter turns 16. I do a lot of searching but their is just so much info out there it is hard to pinpoint my exact situation.
So I ended up with a 96 Del Sol that was originally a auto D16 non vtec that at some point somebody shoved in a JDM B16 5spd running off a JDM P30 ECU. Fast forward and the PO drove in some slightly high water 2" -3" and the car died; ECU remained dry and motor was not hydrolocked and the Frankenstein hack job on the engine harness the main culprit.
So I have dropped the motor and began installing a unmolested 96 Del Sol B16 ODB2 harness and hit a few minor snags listed below and was hoping the community could lend it expertise.
1. OBD2 IAT sensor plug is different than that of an OBD1 IAT in the intake runner. Is there a ODB2 IAT that is a bolt on replacement or do I just repin the connector? I rather repin than splice
2. CKF sensor do you recommend the bypass or add it to the motor when I change the timing belt? I want to run the P30 ECU that I already have.
3. Running the TS-81U distributor
4. Running the Vtec oil pressure switch
5. Any potential gremlins am I going to have to solve on the body side or on the engine that I should look at be the engine is reinstalled?
Thanks in advance with any suggestions.

1. I would just repin the connector and use the original IAT. Very simple to do that way although the seal for the rear of the connectors are different and the larger round seals are likely impossible to remove from any connectors for the re-pinning without damaging them to the point of uselessness. That is if I'm following what you're saying and you want to use the round obd1 style connector and IAT vs the rectangular obd2 style? Post a pic of the two. I may be able to help you out with a brand new seal.
2. The ckf addition involves more than just installing the ckf sensor. To add it to the engine you would also have to change the oil pump and lower timing cover and the install requires dropping the oil pan. Performing the bypass is much easier. On my recent swap I added the ckf because my Referee is very thorough but if you don't live in CA I would do the wiring mod.

Go buy the obd2 iat, it sits in the rubber air intake arm.
Either get all b-series relate parts or do the bypass. Will you be running the obd2 jdm p30 ecu or the obd1 p30 ecu?
Is this a question?

Nobody knows because the car was dead when you got it, right?

So I got my hands on the Honda engine wiring harness and the plug that I was thinking was the IAT sensor turned out to be for the Evap Canister plug. I located the correct plug for the IAT which is inserted in the tube running(I do not have and need to source) from the airbox to the throttle body so I will disregard the one in the intake runner and buy the correct IAT.
I plan on running what I believe is a ODB1 JDM P30 ECU since I already have the unit and it was running the vehicle previously. If I understand the countless pages on the subject I will need to run the VTEC wire since I have a non-VTEC chassis. I would love to find somebody parting 96-97 B16 Del Sol and grab the tower to ECU harness but I think I would have an easier time finding a unicorn in the wild.
I will stab the engine back in the week after next so that we can power the circuits and determine exactly what the PO has done with the splices in the distributor pig tail and the couple of splices that I see in the harness from the tower to the ECU.
Thanks for the suggestions and guidance.
