I have a 2011 honda accord that I got new and don't drive it that much it has 11,000 miles on it. I took it for a oil change and they wanted to replace the cabin and engine air filter for $120. I asked them if there would be a code saying they needed to be changed and they said yes but there was no code or light, and they didn't explain that. They showed me the filters, the cabin air filter was dirty and had leaves on it, the engine air filter was less dirty, it had some black spots on it but didn't look filthy or anything. I changed the cabin filter myself, and am debating on changing the engine air filter, when it needs to be changed does a code appear? How often should it be changed the manual does not specify a specific maintenance schedule.

 

Not a code exactly. The maintenance minder will go on and it will read B2. It doesn't mean the filter is bad,simply that it is recommended at that time. An inspection should be done.
