Default Engine choking- 1990 Honda crx 1.5sohc

New to forums- sorry.

I got a 1990 crx- d15. I'm having an issue- anytime my fuel is just under half a tank the car sputters. Usually during take off from a stop. Also happens when I'm driving, use to not Let me go above 3k rpm. Changed the fuel pump relay and that seemed to help a lot. Just changed the fuel pump, sender and strainer an cleaned out the gas tank and still is choking below half tank and the idling goes in and now.
Any ideas on how to fix this to make it smooth? After getting it back to clean, smooth, stock, I wanna do a rally build.

Thanks for the help!

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed and what type of fuel are you using? Maybe there is some water mixed in with the fuel and is settling at the bottom? Id try to get some non ethanol fuel to help clean everything up as well. Not saying these will help the issue but could be a possibility.

Maybe someone else could give you better advice. Hope this helps though

I haven't changed the fuel filter yet. Next thing I will do!

I've already dropped the gas tank and cleaned it out. It was dirty! Maybe I'll get a gas additive to help clean out the system, it is smelling different now that everything's changed.

Thank you for the advice!

Update:
Was hearing a Hissing noise. Changed the throttle body gaskets and turned my head to the back of the intake manifold and found a fat crack in the gasket. Switched out the intake manifold gasket and now it's idling fine. Running super smooth again.

On another Note, still having an issue with acceleration, only when I'm at half a tank. Feels like when I'm taking off, the power cuts out then a couple seconds later will kick in. Only happens when I'm at half a tank or lower. Any suggestions?

Also check your fuel pressure and O2 sensor
Sometimes lazy O2 sensors don't cause a cel but won't work right

If you do replace it, avoid bosch and get a denso

It was throwing a o2 sensor code but I was hoping fixing the intake manifold gasket would correct the o2 sensor code. Will get that changed and will update.

I've also thought about doing the fuel pressure regulator since this only happens when it's at half a tank. I've noticed that when I pull the gas cap to off to fuel up (always keep it above half a tank to advoid issues and possibly make worse), there's a pressure that escapes right when I losen the cap, anything that I should be concerned abut?

Fuel pressure regulators are expensive, test the pressure first before you change it.
A bad O2 sensor will cause low or high fuel pressure as well. And if it has a cel it could be the sensor.
Don't get bosch, get Denso

M gas cap does the same thing, I don;t think it's bad.
