Like the title says, any active members who have boosted or plan to boost their stock b18c5 motors? currently have a list/starting to buy for this winters build and im curious of what turbos every1 is running and the kind of #s you guys are putting down
Basically rebuilt my block 4k miles ago and since then the stock head has gone to **** -.- so bam time to rebuild the head with upgraded valve train and slap a turbo on lol.
the kit itself is mostly going to be from go autoworks but heres the basic list
T-GA billet 5454
ramhorn or mini ram
Tial 38mm wastegate + 50mm blow off valve
FMIC/custom piping
550cc injectors
aeromotive 340lph pump
hondata for tuning
oem map or just buy the hondata 4 bar?
3` downpipe/exhaust and 2.5` dump
the goal is to safely put 300-350 to the wheels, maybe 7-10psi. tips/suggestions? boosted type r guys feel free to chime in. Jeff evans has tuned 40-50 stock type Rs so i know your out there lol
Built and boosted B18C5 here. Sounds like you're planning on running a rebuilt but OEM spec bottom end with a built head? I can't personally speak for the reliability of a stock bottom end holding up under that kind of pressure.. I would be concerned that the compression ratio would be too high for even the 7-10 PSI you're proposing. I suppose it's not too far off from what you would see with a supercharger, so maybe you'd be fine?
I'm running the opposite. I have a built bottom end paired with a stock head and intake manifold. The last time I had my car tuned I made 398 to the wheels at 12 PSI. Here are a few more details on my last setup:
B18C5 block bored to 82 MM
Wiseco 9:1 pistons
Eagle Rods
Golden Eagle Block Guard
ACL bearings
ARP head studs
Hytech Street Turbo manifold (REAL)
Precision 6262 Turbocharger
Precision 960cc Injectors
HKS SSQV BOV
TIAL 46MM wastegate

Custom 3" exhaust
Apexi WS2 muffler
There are a lot of people that are not fans of building an R motor for boost, especially when it comes to lowering your compression.. That said, I love damn thing. The car is an absolute monster and is still driveable on a day to day basis. Or at least it would be if it wasn't in pieces all over my garage.. Lol! I'm restoring the car from the ground up as we speak. Keeping the motor boosted for now. If you're interested, you can see more on my motor and the restoration of my R by following the link in my signature. Good luck!
the previous owner had this motor super charged on 5psi and it held up fine so i dont think 7-10 on a smaller turbo will hurt much as long as its tuned properly. reason i went around emailng the local tuners and it appears that evans has done the most stock boosted motors.
also i wouldnt even bother with the head but its just dumping oil as soon as oil pressure rises. cant hurt to upgrade the valve train since ill have the head off. deffinately plan on using the type r cams, and i could use a thicker head gasket/cam degree to lower compression a lil if need be. plus its only 10.6 c/r. doable on pump gas.
guess it all comes down to the tune for reliability

If you keep the bottom end stock, I think you might hit low 300 max with 7-10psi. Since your goal is to be on the safe side, you will be running rich through out your power curve. So, get ready for a nose mask and car wash twice a week if you are going to run catless. LOL!
what size turbo are u running though? sounds about where i want to be
And the only problem i see is detonation due to higher comp and pump gas. if i can get a good/safe tune then reliability shouldnt be too much of an issue
on the stock motor I was running a t3/t4e. it wasn't detonating, it was at high boost 11 psi AFR was 13.5:1, which yes, is more in the stoich range and you wouldn't want to spend a lot of time there anyway. and on a full tank of gas I would have to have a gallon of 110 octane in it to keep it a little safer.
I used to have a Full Race 35R setup on my old R. Fully built C5 motor by ERL. 84mm, manley rods, CP pistons. Mostly stock head aside from valves/springs, light port/polish, stock IM. Stock trans with MFactory 4.0 final drive and tilton twin. The car made stupid power, over 500whp on pump gas at 20psi which was a lot back then. Was fun when I fucked around on the street but was pointless on a circuit and ran super hot. Swapped that setup into a CX hatch, kept grenading the tranny and got tired of fixing it, so sold it before I killed myself lol. Back in a stock R and will never boost an ITR again haha.
I'm boosting a c5. Sleeved block, stock head minus valves/springs/retainers. Makin 589whp at 26psi. The stock head will make good power, you really want to build that block. Atleast forged internals if you're gonna boost on stock sleeves

Not true, i had a turbo c5 for years on a stock bottom end. Took it like a champ, its all in the tune and your right foot. give your self plenty of dudty cycle on your injectors and a good tune. Its a fun car to drive. mine was onl 10 or 12 pounds cant remember but it was great. had ac and ps too.

was it PY? if so, I think I remember seeing that one back in like 03-05 near independence I think if I remember correctly..
