Looking to purchase a 60gal air compressor. I have kind of narrowed it down to these 2:

Ingersoll-Rand SS5L5
Quincy QT-54

Comparing 2 Items | Northern Tool + Equipment

Both are 230V, 2-stage, 1-phase compressors.

The quincy has 175 max psi, IR has 135 max psi
quincy has about 15.5 cfm at 90 psi
IR has about 18 cfm at 90psi

quincy is 1400
IR is 980

The quincy has a baldor motor, which is about the best you can get. Both have similar warranties.

Just not sure if the 175 max psi of the quincy outweighs the 3 extra cfm at 90psi of the IR...and 400 dollars cheaper?

The SS5L5 is a single stage, not in the same class as the Quincy.

 

Oh shoot. I meant the 2340L5 IR compressor

Actually IR compressors have really fallen off, same with their impacts. I use 3/4" and 1" impacts every day, and it's sad when you are reaching for the Chicago Pneumatic instead of the IR...

It depends on what you need the compressor for. If you need 150 psi+ on tap (which can definitely make the difference between removing a bolt or not) Between the two choices, I would definitely look into the Quincy personally. The last IR we had lasted until just outside it's warranty.

 

With that Baldor 5hp motor and doing some more research and reading reviews I am definitely leaning towards the Quincy.

 

Take a look at FS Curtis as well. Baldor motors. Their ML series are 40 YR+ rated compressors.

 

Got the Quincy delivered and installed and plumbed last night. I am more than happy!

Will do... this is just for shop-at-home use. Although one of the 2 80+ gallon compressors at the shop is an older quincy and has treated us well.
