OK i am a cheap poor SOB, i am looking into making a oil catch can, i want something that will work (no steel wool inside) and that will look have desent.

I was thinking of using a fuel filter from auto zone or something, any one have any ideas if that will work or not? or have a better idea?

unless your car is FI there is no need especially if it is a street driven car only. won't help. spend your money elsewhere. If you do want to do this my advice is to buy a Greddy catch can (they seem to be the best bang for the buck).

 

heh i was bored one day and i too decided to make a home made oil catch can.
its not finished but so far i have the actual can built out of clear 1/4 inch plexi glass. it looks great and has held cold oil for about 1 month now and has held hot oil for a few hours with no problems at all. now when i get around to it i have to make holes for the fittings and find a way to mount it.

it is about 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide the top and bottom are glued on with a special epoxy that my buddys glass sho uses and thats why i had to test it with motor oil to see if the oil would break down the epoxy and it held up perfectly i stuck a few pieces of steel wool into it before we epoxied it and we drilled a small plugable hole to pour the oil in it.

im thinking about getting some of those anodized 90 degree angle fittings for the hoses that go to it i also got clear reinforced hoses for that cool look from the hardware store. all i really need to do is mount the fittings make them seal then find a way to make a bracket for the can and walah a super jdm catch can from me to the little **** on ebay

 

em, i really dont have the resources for the plexi glass one, i was thinking more along the lines of a fuel filter that is already made.

Do you think this would work,you could build it for less than $10 easy,just use silicone,let me know what you think, i might try it.

 

that looks pretty damn good except id build one just to test how oil will work with the silicone and pvc
just put some oil in it and let it sit for a month or 2 to see if the oil will eat the silicone or plastic if it dosnt it looks like a great start if it eats it try some diffrent sealent

 

damn that is a pretty good pic there i could use some caps for the top and bottom and drill out the rest.........maybe paint it black or something
