Trying to remove the crank bolt off my ATI Super Damper, its extremely tight and won't come off even with an air impact. When I had the Honda crank pulley I had the special tool to hold the damper in place and get a large breaker bar on it.

Anyone ever have to remove the ATI Damper? How did you hold it in place?


I called ATI and they have no such wrench/tool, which I think is completely ridiculous.

Right but what I am asking is how do I hold the ATi damper in place and keep it from spinning.

Forgot mention I have already tried the breaker bar in gear and it did not work.

 

your impact gun is too weak. need one with more torque.

 

That's a thought, maybe it is time to upgrade my air impact. I have an old Snap-On but I don't know its max output. Have people had success with stronger air impacts?

When i was in a shop we had various brands that did 250lb/ft in reverse. But the shop owned a 3/4" drive that did 600 for tough bolts

 

Bought an AIRCAT 1150 1/2" Air Impact took the bolt off first try, no problem.

 

that is a beast of an impact gun. beats the **** out of my ingersoll i have, used at the shop and now run at home...

 

Use anti-seize compound on that bolt when you put it back together and never have the problem again.
