Default Grinding noise and clunks... what is going on here?

Okay so

98 EX coupe manual trans

It's made some noise in the front end since I bought it - the control arm bushings are all decent as is the sway bar. Are there bushings in the steering rack? If so - how do you get to them? I can't see anything under there.

I noticed recently it started making a grinding sound at speed. If I take it out of gear, it doesn't make the noise anymore, only when in gear. I'm not sure if it's a grinding or a vibrating, but it's pretty obnoxious and I'm not feeling too confident in it now.

Where do I start?

Sounds like the throw out bearing is bad. Does it do it with the clutch engaged or dis-engaged?

Engaged only. If I press to change gears, it's fine.

How about at idle when you press and depress the clutch? Is the noise only for one of these?

No noise at idle. Only at speed.

Could be a wheel bearing, try jacking the car up and spinning the tires listening for a crunching noise as the wheel is rolling.

Both of those were replaced 5,000 miles ago by the techs at work.

It also doesn't go away when I turn the wheel one way or another. Probably safe to rule those out.

Your input shaft bearing is shot. Like, WAY shot. Your transmission is on the verge of eating itself alive.

Well then. I'd rather that not happen, considering this trans was just installed by a shop with a 1 year warranty.

I guess I'm bringing it back on Monday.
