Re: Cars For Sale: Integra TYPE-R's - Sept/Oct 2015
I have decided to put my 1996 Honda Integra Type R on the market, as I need a car that is more professional and mature looking for work. The car is a Japanese foreign import, meaning the steering wheel is on the right side. I'm the third owner of the vehicle and the current mileage is 123,005km and will keep on going up as it's my daily driven vehicle at the moment.
Car is in Vancouver, BC, Canada - I don't know how to bring the car down to US.
The mods I've done:
Engine:
Comptech Ice Box
Samco sport silicon intake hose
J's Racing Stainless Steel 4-2-1 Header
T1R Midpipe
Mugen Twin Loop Muffler
Tires & Brakes:
Dunlop Direzza DZ102 205/55/15 -- brand new mounted in March 2015
Suspension & Drivetrain:
Buddy Club Racing Spec Dampers
12kg/mm spring front
8kg/mm spring rear
Interior:
Alpine Single din deck with rewired connector and Panasonic antenna in trunk
'96 Spec Integra Type R OEM Momo Steering Wheel
Exterior:
Carbon fiber bonnet (I believe it's VIS OEM style)
Spoon Style Carbon Fiber Manual Mirrors
Security:
Compustar RF-1WG2-AM-H 2000' 1-way with immobilizer and active starter disable
Maintenance Work:
Engine
GoodYear Timing Belt
Koyo Timing Belt Tensioner
OEM Tensioner Spring
NOK Front Main Seal
Arai Camshaft Seals
OEM Valve Cover Gasket
NPW Water Pump
Coolant Flush with OEM Type II Coolant
OEM Ignition Rotor Assembly
B18C OEM Distributor Cap
Richport Technology Distributor Unit
Transmission
New Honda Manual Transmission Fluid changed a year ago
Exedy Clutch Slave Cylinder
Tires & Brakes
New rear passenger side caliper
New ABS Accumulator and Motor Seals
ATE Super Gold DOT4 Brake Fluid Flush
Suspension
New front outer tie rod ends
New front inner tie rods
New front passenger side driveshaft
New trailing arm bushings
Recently done in June/July 2015:
Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40 Full Synthetic (every 6 months or 5000 km)
Hamp Oil Filter (Short)
OEM Denso Spark Plugs
OEM Fuel Filter
Valve Adjustment
OEM Valve Cover Gasket
AC Compressor Belt
Power Steering Belt
Alternator Belt
OEM Nissin rear brake pads
Now, some key information unique to this car:
1. This car has AC and SRS option straight from factory -- pretty rare for 1996 Integra Type Rs.
2. ABS issue - because this car is a 1996 model, it is a victim of the flawed ABS system design. All '94-'97 era Integras, Accords, and any models with the same ABS unit have the identical issue where a buzzing sound is heard periodically from the ABS motor, where eventually the sound stops and the ABS light turns on. This is due to the internal seal of the ABS unit wearing down with time, where the nitrogen accumulator cannot maintain constant pressure at 10ksi. As a result, the feedback loop in the ABS computer constantly triggers the ABS motor to pressurize the system. Eventually, the feedback loop becomes a feed-forward loop by simply disabling the ABS system and turning on the light with an error code. With that, the braking becomes a regular hydraulic system without ABS intervention and will lock up under heavy braking. I have tried replacing the ABS motor and accumulator O-rings with no sign of progress. The only solutions I've found to the aforementioned issue is to either buy the same brand new ABS unit or to swap hard lines and ABS unit from 98+ Integras, where Nissin has addressed this issue and redesigned it for reliability. (Based on some extensive research and a lot of late-night frustrations troubleshooting with a multimeter and an oscilloscope.)
3. This car came with all its original glass as well as all of its yearly inspection and parking permit stickers on its windshields from Japan before it came to Canada. It even has the original Honda Primo dealer decal on the rear tailgate. I also have a Yokohama license plate which I use to cover up my BC plate during photoshoots -- it will be included with the car.
4. All four wheels were curbed by the first owner. All of them are still straight and rotationally balanced.
5. I'm not the original importer, but along with the sale will include the original inspection report in Japanese as well as a photocopy of the export certificate to indicate the authenticity of the mileage which I got from previous owner who imported it.
6. The front bumper is in pretty bad condition as it was on another JDM ITR originally (see story below). The rest of the body and the interior is pretty good condition still. That being said, do expect door dings, dents, and scratches from inconsiderate people over the course of its 20-year life. No rust on the body or quarter panels.
When I bought the car, I traded my knockoff Mugen bumper that came with it with a genuine OEM one by driving all the way down to Seattle to meet another Canadian JDM ITR owner, but had to source my own front lip. I painted the lip myself, but forgot to apply clear coat to harden it and the paint chipped it within 2 days. Since then, I've never bothered to repaint it -- it was a lot of effort gone to waste and I was quite disheartened at the time. That same ITR I traded bumpers with is now back in lower mainland under another owner. (It was on CL a year ago.)
See my build thread on Honda-Tech for the full story with the car. I stopped updating the thread a year ago because of my extensive involvement in building and competing two different formula race cars.
Link: https://honda-tech.com/acura-integra...hread-3179595/
The car has its good and bad aspects and I've come to terms with the car, as it taught me a lot of valuable skills through the countless hours working on it, albeit full of frustration at times. These skills and knowledge eventually helped me land interviews in F1 and multiple car manufacturers for various engineering positions. (The formula cars I've built is the main reason on my CV, but knowing specific SAE and MIL engineering standards really makes you sound like you know what you're doing.) Had to say it's been fun and the fact that the car is still largely mechanical rather than firmware-driven makes it easier to troubleshoot and very enjoyable to work on during a Sunday afternoon.
The following items will be included with car sale:
• Stock suspension and damper forks
• Stock power mirrors in Championship White
• Brand new OEM clutch master cylinder sourced from Singapore -- RHD cars have different CMC than LHD Integras -- very difficult to find. Not an overnight part from Japan though, which is a shame.
• Stock distributor with brand new cap and rotor -- I replaced them and a week later the NEC solid-state relay inside failed due to age. For the sake of ERTW, I've fixed it as an engineering exercise and now I have a full spare distributor.
• A still new OEM timing belt for B-series engines -- the timing belt was changed prior to export, but apparently someone forgot to change the water pump, leaving me get in there again and do it properly myself.
• Sparco positively-retaining locking hood pins -- My dremmel died halfway through installation so I can't install them myself.
Asking $9500 CAD
I've priced the car based on its merits, the parts included, and its drawbacks listed. All serious inquiries are welcomed.
Re: Cars For Sale: Integra TYPE-R's - Sept/Oct 2015
Looking for a 98-01 NHBP ITR, STOCK AND CLEAN TITLE ONLY. Preferbly one in the west coast region but willing to travel if the R is right. Email me at theeeazy@me.com for convenience.
I'll update this with more details/pictures hopefully this weekend. For people that only read the first few lines of a for sale ad, if you are looking for a numbers matching, single owner, 97 ITR unicorn then this car isn't for you.
If you are looking for a 97 ITR that has a NON-SALVAGE title, and has been basically restored with as many new OEM parts, as well as a mix of performance related parts then this car might be for you.
UPDATED PRICED
Asking price for the car is 16k OBO. The car is located in the Northern Virginia area (20 minutes outside of DC).
Some of the pictures maybe broken due to image hosts, but it'll give you a general idea of what was done to the car. Like I said, detailed pictures will be taken soon and posted up here.
Below is a general list of modifications/etc that I can remember off the top of my head. I've also included a few small issues (just things that need to be taken care of) for full disclosure to any potential buyers.

Re: Cars For Sale: Integra TYPE-R's - Sept/Oct 2015
WTB: Integra Type R in black or white. Located in the SF bay area.
I'm looking for a clean, honest car. No body issues, crash history, theft history, rust. Clean title and as close to stock as possible, with original drivetrain and body panels. This won't be a garage queen, so I'll consider mileage up to 120k if the car is well-maintained.
I'm willing to pay and travel for the right car. SF preferred because working with folks cross-country can be tedious and I would like to inspect the car with my own eyes.
Thanks very much, please PM me if you are considering selling or if you have a lead.

Re: Cars For Sale: Integra TYPE-R's - Sept/Oct 2015
Hi Everyone,
I've got a 2001 Phoenix Yellow ITR (#501) with 51,XXX original miles. This car is unmolested and bone stock outside of plug and play HIDs and a Viper car alarm. It has NEVER: Been lowered, had an exhaust, had an intake, been in any accidents, been raced, and been driven in snow.
It's a California car. I am the second owner and the first owner was my best friend. He bought it when we were in college, drove it around town, then garaged it for years.
Body is clean and the only thing ever repainted on it was the front bumper and rear hatch, because someone scratched it when they stole the emblems. New emblems were put on and those parts were re-sprayed by "The Works Autobody" in Santa Clara, CA. Look them up as they often paint Ferraris and other high end cars.
I am confident that this is the most stock and best condition ITR currently out there. If I get an offer I can't refuse, I will sell it. I am in Northern California and this car has always been here. It's been garaged its whole life, so paint is great and all the exterior black trim looks new.
I'm kind of hesitant to part with it, but the other side of me says I should, because it never gets driven and it just sits in my garage. I can send pictures upon request. Thanks for reading!
