Reverse problem

Greeting Honda tech I got a problem with my 96 civic cx, the car doesn't want to go in reverse. the car has a short shifter and it has a new tranny can someone tell me what's the problem

Can you shift into 5th gear?

99.9% sure that you'll have to open up the case if you want to fix it.
