Default '98 LX tach doesn't work, easy to replace tach? Or what clusters fit?

Tach doesn't work on my '98 LX sedan project car so I'm currently weighing my options on whether I should fix it or swap clusters.

How hard is it to replace the tach in my cluster? This is the most ideal option for me because I'd like to retain my body mileage.

What clusters fit this car without modification? Would it be possible to swap my odometer over to any of those clusters? I do have a '99 auto cluster but I don't remember if it has the PRND lights in it, and I don't think I want to mount an aftermarket tach anywhere.

Have you confirmed that the tach is bad or could it be the tach signal?

The tach is extremely easy to swap you can use a civic or crv cluster just google it. Also you can retain your speedo to use in the new cluster or set the new speedo to the correct mileage just check with Google there are tons of video how's tos on this. All u need is a larger Phillips head and a small Phillips head screw driver to get it done. Clusters are cheap and plentiful on eBay and even cheaper in the junk yard.

Hope that helps.

You can remove the speedo and just swap that into the new cluster. It's very simple.

Won't be able to check until the weekend, but I'm pretty sure it's the tach.

go to your local partsstore, and ask them to hook up a scanner. if its a realtime scanner (not one of those cheap *** code reader/deleter things) you can verify the ecu is reading rpms.
If its reading correctly, then yes, off to change the commonly bad tacho's

Its easier to grab another cluster and swap versus swapping just a tacho. nearly same price if you look hard enough on ebay. My Y7 autotragic doesnt have a tacho and I almost bought a EX cluster for $30 shipped
