Ignition timing tuning on dyno with no HP gains?
Hey Guys, i am new to tuning and started street tuning my car for reliability with force induction engines. Now I have stepped up to dyno tuning for power and when I add 2* of timing into the boost columns, it doesnt show any HP gains when I retard timing by 1* for every psi. AFR is between 10.8-11.6 under boost. Im using e85 fuel, at 17.5* WOT full boost, i made 290hp on 12psi with a gt35r, upped it to 19.5* and made 287hp, then i dropped it to 15.5* and its at 283hp. Any ideas? Base ignition is set to 16.5*, injectors duty cycle is at 68%. Engine is ls vtec.
I did not see the .5mm change in color at the electrode but I'm already at 24* from the datalog table in full boost at 12psi and it made 294hp, I back off to 22* then 20* and its still in the 280-290hp ball park. That's why I don't get if I'm at MBT or not because I think 4* should at least make a bigger HP difference
im no e85 master but cant you run substantially more timing than pump gas with it since it has an octane in the low 100's
also with an afr of 10-11 is that with the wideband calibrated for e85 fuel. you probably want to run it around .8 lambda which is 11.7 on gas but 7.8 afr on e85.

You run the same afr on e85 as gas <br /><br />The lambda is whats different but the gauge still displays in afr <br /><br />Its kinda confusing but if you tune for 8:1 afr i doubt the car will run
Do I have to advance timing where I reach max tq or max HP? Like if I reach max HP at 6800rpm, do I add timing at 6800 or do I add it to the last column in full boost? I'm using a stock map sensor.
Seems like I've posted this pic a lot lately lol. Almost all obd1 honda ecus have an ignition compensation table that ramps timing up as rpms increase, unless it's been disabled and added to the table timing manually. This pic represents the one from crome, but they all have a similar table. So for me I keep timing numbers the same from about 5500rpm to redline as this table takes care of ramping timing in for me. Neptune lets you log actual timing vs table timing. My actual timing is about 9* or so more advanced then my table timing at redline.
Here is mine in Neptune. I have my ignition ramp setup manually in the high cam table.

Hey boosted94gsr, on crome when you datalog, is the timing number on the datalog section the actual timing? And is it recommended that I set the timing compensation to 0 for ever rpm range because at the moment I have mine at 18.5* at 14psi and the datalog timing shows me 22.5*.
