I bought a 98 civic last week, one of the previous owners had replaced the motor. It runs great and I'm not having any issues with it but I noticed this was just laying there not attached to anything. It is still connected to the wiring harness but not bolted onto the motor.
I'm curious if anyone knows what it is and if I should just leave it alone or if it can be removed?
It's a VTEC solenoid. The PO blew the motor, replaced it with a Y7, but kept the original ECU, and kept the VTEC solenoid plugged in so it didn't throw a code.

Complete bodgejob.
Yeah, it's just a beater to drive to work so I'm not too worried about it. My 97 civic beater died on the weekend after 2 years and 100k of loyal service.
