0 compression? 150 0 150 150 what is this?
stock 2000 B16
289,000 miles
holset HY35 turbo 10psi
was running on 4th @8200rpm and started smoking.
Compression test returns:
150 0 150 150.
I certainly have an issue, But that 0 seems strange to me. anyone else ever had such an experience? I'm used to seeing a very low number when there is a problem. Never a 0.
thanks for the input.

Yeah, 0 happens when you completely **** that cylinder. Could be a cracked sleeve, could be a damaged valve, could be a few different things. Do a leakdown test to figure out where the compression is being lost. A "modified" leakdown test is good enough. You can find a how-to in my build thread, here.

I wish we all lived in the fast and furious
Stupid mistakes aside, at least OP followed the rules, and made a good thread to get answers, unlike what we usually get around here. He gets a pass on the berating - we need more competent posters like him around, even if he is a little misguided.
Damn.. that's overly nice of you. You've been like a GrumbleMarc junior lately... to the point where you could be called GrumbleNARC.

Not really. If people actually take the time to learn a little about the place before posting, NAR can be quite helpful. It's only when people don't meet his expectations in the first post or two that he's an unruly beast. And not in a good way.
It serves a purpose but sometimes I think it can be counterproductive.
Then again, I'm slowly learning a bit more and more how our culture doesn't teach or provide collaborative/supportive type environments.
I am working towards being able to provide such an environment and I find I suck at it more often than not. Kinda hard to think others are going to be any better, especially if they are not actively working towards it.
OP, in many ways, hopefully your issue is in the head and not the block. The head is an easier and cheaper fix overall than the block.

i sometimes call out stupid posts, but the mama bird threads **** me off the most. the "how do i swap a b18" threads and the like. this one is legit, OP needs a leakdown test.
0 compression is some sort of failure. Generally if it's something more minor you'd get some compression. Does it run after the even before compression test? Did you hear a loud sound.
Smoke could be oil getting in that cylinder due to a cracked/melted piston. Could be cracked valve, melted head (coolant entering cylinder), cracked sleeve. Could have been getting lots of det, 10 psi on a already high compression motor is risky if you're on pump. How confident was your tune? Granted high mileage, but that should only account for slow performance loss as long as routine maint. occured.

Yeah no ****, hope all is well with the guy.
Back to OP
Yeah looks like some damage has occured and will require you to pull the head to inspect. If you want you do a leakdown test first to determin if you dropped a valve, but than again if you dropped a valve not only could the head be toast but that particular cylinder could also be bomb-bastic.

That pic of a rod and piston does not belong to the OP. (Me). It looks like he had the same fate.
The engine handled about 7months of back to back abuse. Im satisfied with how well it did. Even though it died by human error (bad tune) and not fatigue on its part.
Now we go into the engine building stage.
Thanks to all for the input and opinions. And for going easy on a noob style post and not releasing the grouch.

Yup, I'm in the same stage. Hoping to get my block back from the machinist by the weekend. 81.5mm CP pistons and manley rods.
I believe a fuel injector failed. 312whp on DSM 450cc.

K I see the bot of the piston now, yeah you definitely blew that piston. Take it apart and inspect cylinder walls. Like someone said, tune is the suspect atm.
