Default First time civic owner Florida

Good afternoon ya'll I just recently got my 01 civic coupe ex she's runs perfect but I've already been having some electrical problems when I started messing with the radio i think I'm going to need a lot of help

Factory radio harness was only attached to a couple of wires the other wires are as shown to the alpine headunit that was installed of coarse I didn't think it was a big deal to just chop them both off to put my kenwood harness on and after numerous cutting and splicing and testing wires with other wires praying something doesn't blow up my dash dimmer wire(red) from factory is attached to the 12v switch on which I believe is yellow and red so now my dash lights turn on but no running lights...

Please help me I can't drive at night because my tail lights aren't on unless I ride the brake and I don't want to get pulled over. I tried hooking up the red and black wire that I had left over from the factory radio harness to the dash and 12v wire but when I did that and turned the car on smoke came from my cluster and my turn signals were faintly turning on until it smoked but I had no dash lights or running lights. No I have dash lights and my radio works with no running lights and now my turn signals appear to stay on the cluster and when I was messing with wires I twisted together the red and black wires to the white and red which is constant battery for the radio memory and the turn signals turned on my cluster like there are when that wire isn't hooked up to anything I don't know what to do I feel like I ruined something in my cluster and I don't want to ruin something else but I need my running lights to work again please help

Ugh. Some people (like the person who did that) should just leave **** alone. That's a travesty when you can get an adapter harness for $4. The worst part about stuff like this is that you probably would never see it doing a pre purchase inspection.

My suggestion would be to head to a junkyard and clip that sectioned harness off of another car. Splice it back in, wire for wire, with solder and shrink tube (or solder sleeves). Get an adapter harness and start over. Start diagnosing from there if problems still persist.

Sadly, it looks like you may have quite the handful of work there. Without functioning lights, it makes me think that there was a short in the multiplexer.

Just FYI, the keyless entry and security system all plug in to the factory head unit, so this botch job of a wiring debacle might have caused issues there if you have them.

I thought that was only with the 96-98? My familiarity with Civics falls off quickly post-2000, did they start incorporating the keyless again in 2001? It does have the green connectors there which are typically tied to that system...

Oh yeah, the keyless entry and security system were still part of the head unit harness/module for the 01-05 generation.
