Turbo b16 engine popped on the dyno
So yeah cylinder 1 (completly gone), cylinder 2 low compression about to go. All at 180 before dyno day. The tune looked good, as far as i know. There wasnt much timimng in it.. 17 i think and the engine just popped. It pulled 235 hp 180ftlbs on 9lbs right before she went which seems really low to me. Spool up was also around 3500rpm which seemed a bit slow.

Tuning shop is one of the best in colorado so i dont think anything on the tuning side was bad.

Trying to figure out what happens so that the new engine doesn't pop. Seems odd that it would go so easy with little boost and power. I have seen stock blocks hold up with much bigger turbos running more boost.
sounds pretty normal to me. 9lbs is just about the limit of what a stock block can handle. Rings are usually the first thing to go on a stock block

It could be a bunch of different things. We can only guess what the cause was if we see pics
your last thread said your compression was between 170-180 i believe. even then i said that sounds low for a b16, considering my completely stock b16 made 220ish across the board. and my 9:0.1 motor makes over 180 compression. yes coloardo elevation is higher, but that big of a difference. and yes pics please.

Once i get pics of the parts i will post pics but i am sure the rings went.
I figured 9lbs would create more power but if most of it was being lost though blow by, i guess not.

There are a lot of factors.. Most of it is prior health of the stock engine. The tests you performed give you information initially, but don't conclude that b16s can not handle the 300whp threshold that your research had led you to believe here. Many factors including tuning play a large role.. The tuning was fine, but the health of the engine wasn't.
Also, don't get into this psi logic again. 9 psi or 11 psi doesn't make the difference. It could have stayed at 9 and lasted through your tuning session, only to die a week later..
But that is now moot.

I think this is the correct compressor map for my turbo. Keep in mind this car is desinged for track racing not drag racing.

Also, when there is no good effective compression due to bad ringlands, it affects the turbocharger negatively, and showing there is a problem by the turbocharger not responding very well to your dyno. ALWAYS run a filter no matter what.
This is also a good time during the rebuild to flush the entire oil system out, because you don't know what contaminants or babbit may have befallen your oil lines. Since its being built, check your oil pan, flush the turbo oil lines both feed and return lines, (even if they don't show signs of any metal or other babbit material. This is essential!!! I've seen a lot of people blow up one engine with the turbocharger being perfectly fine, then go to another engine, and the turbo starts experiencing problems from the old engine, because they swapped over the same equipment to the new engine, and didn't flush the lines and check for signs of metal shavings or babbit. Do that first and foremost.

How much timing was in it above 6k rpm Or peak tq?

This....There is a LOT of smoke coming out on that video...Should have stopped as soon as you saw there. You can't tell me with 3 people aside from the driver no one saw that smoke?
That smoke has always been there even before the turbo was really boosting. We figured it was just excessive blow by or oil being pushed in through the valves. Only happened when reved really hard. And it was more like 8-12 people
Apart from hindsight (rings or pistone crap out on a not healthy engine)... Anything else I should consider apart from pistons /rings, rod studs and oil flush?
Should I try to decrease the air temp with a fan or something?

Stock block b16s can handle like 350whp

Did you maybe have 87 octane gas in there? Did it run lean at all? Are the injectors new? Have they been cleaned and flow tested if they are used?
Was the tuner datalogging? If he did take a look at the logs. How rich was the afr? Did he read your plugs at all during this?

I will need to get the maps from the tunner.
He data logged and we checked the plugs during tunning. I didn't see it go lean at all during the tuning process or during runs.
Injectors are not new.
Fresh 4 gal of 91 in there. Best we can get out here on the pump (except e85 but that's hard to come by)
