My 1993 honda prelude starts up fine and runs good but sometimes it shuts off on its own or when I turn it off it does not start back up in till it sits for a while

 

It sounds like your ICM in your distributor is bad or your main relay or your ignition switch at your key is bad. Just have to do some troubleshooting to track down which one it is causing your issue.

 

When it doesnt start, immediately check for spark and fuel.

 

Well there's not much detail here. But main relay is a trouble spot for preludes

 

The no styart symptom sounds like Main Relay to me, but the shutting off, not so sure. Could be dist. related, or ignition related, or fuel pump shutting off from main relay as wel, many possibilities.

The first thing I would do is swap in a good main relay.
