Does anyone know if a CRX Si tach will properly (accurately) display the whole RPM scale that a B16 can go to, like up to 9000 RPM..? I'm buying an Si and doing a B16 swap but I want to find out if making the tach look right for a B16 is as easy as getting a different (higher RPM) gauge face for the stock tach, or will I have to get a JDM cluster of some sort... Anyone have any thoughts or personal experience?

Well I'm not too worried about overall accuracy, I just want it to look like a B16 tach should, like my VTEC del sol or a 99 etc Civ si... Do you think that the stock tach will rotate that far, or actually read that?
If you're talking about stock CRX tachs, they can be horribly innacurate. I know a guy who shifts his A6 at 8000 on his ctock tach, while the dyno says 7200.
Raene's is pretty accurate, but it seems to depend on the car. I would just go aftermarket if you can!

Wiring is not really simple just need common knowledge...like common sense, lol...you have to replace your VSS with an electronic one and wires are usually same color code from the stock plugs to the new cluster except for 3. I posted a couple of links last week regarding this topic..pls run a search its available. Or pm me if you need anything else.

You brought up a valid point about the use of foreign clusters. I think it's really about using an odometer from a different car so the correct vehicle mileage won't be displayed. Does anyone know if just a JDM tach can be swapped in, without the rest of the cluster, to sidestep the logal issues??

i know the oem tachs arent accurate, but do they really need to be? as long as you know where it is on your tach that you should shift, thats all thats really important IMO. on my setup, my b16 hits the rev limiter right at the end of the tach's display. so i just know when to shift based on that, even though the actual numbers probably arent 100% accurate. i guess it all depends on your application.

I just want a tach that is scaled right for a B16, the JDM SiR seems like the way to go.... Now about that KPH instead of MPH
You learn to live with it....I've had mine for over 2 years and I am very used to it. Just to add something, if you have an '88 or '89 car (like me), you need to get the newer cluster housing. The '90 and '91 housings are round instead of flat. And the wiring takes a while if you have an old 2g.
