Was driving home this morning and noticed my check engine light came on then started blinking which was weird. Car has 176k and does run a little ric , black soot on the rear bumper im going to go see what the code is anyone had this happen to them before?
try the diy area sometime, you can learn a lot.

When it's blinking, your engine is currently misfiring for any number of reasons. It should probably throw you into limp mode as well. Stop driving like that and check the fault codes.
Update went to advance auto to get the code read but there was no check engine light and no code!! And nothing stored at all. Now the light only comes on and goes off im kinda stumped would a clogged fuel filter throw a code?

Blinking check engine light while driving =misfire, keep driving on it and if you have a catalytic converter all the unburned fuel will destroy that. Also you may notice terrible gas mileage and very sluggish performance. So if your able to pull the cel with the car running do that otherwise check your ignition system, I know the distributor houses 2 or 3 sensors that control ignition. You should be able to trouble shoot it yourself as Honda made it very easy to do that for most of their cars.
Thats what i thought it was misfire but for some reason the code is not there. I will try to trouble shoot myself i will have to do my research i am not sure how to trouble shoot the distributor.
might want to do a valve adjust if it hasnt been done lately.

So many things can cause that, from spark plug/dizzy, to vacuum leak, to fuel pressure/injectors, even a bad engine coolant temp sensor (my latest) or bad tank of gas. Blown head gasket, burnt rings, cracked pistons... the bad list goes on...
Timing belt done recently? Could be the crankshaft sensor came lose, which is the sensor that is setting that code.
If you're lucky, it will either go away on its own, or eventually throw a code for what is causing the misfire.
Light or heavy throttle when it blinks?

He thing is the light hasnt blinked at all but i also haven't been giving it heavy acceleration. Wow that's alot that could go wrong i do think timing belt was replaced the car has 176k looks like im gonna be looking to get a rebuild in the near future
Sorry to revive this thread but I’m having a issue so here goes the specifics.
i have a 2000 gsr and just recently the check engine light started flashing 8x total while the key is in the on position but the car is not running. When I start the car I get no codes and the car runs and drives fine. I checked the plugs wires and cap and rotor and there all good only thing I have not checked as of yet is the ignition coil. So I’m stumped any help would be nice. Please and thank you
