Default PTE 6266 BB turbo with Gen1 turbo upgraded to a Gen2 compressor wheel

Is that even possible? I don't want to have to buy a whole new turbo if they can just upgrade the compressor wheel to the Gen 2 wheel or just have them at least put a Gen 1 wheel back on? The turbo sucked in the screen

If you send it into Precision Turbo & Engine, they'll rebuild it with their newer compressor wheel anyway. I have to admit, I've never seen a billet compressor wheel from a major company actually "chip" as though it were a cast unit.

And yes, you'll more than likely need it rebuilt.

I sent an email and I called them a couple times today but i wasn't able to get ahold of anybody.

I would like to upgrade to a Gen2 compressor wheel regardless. Has anyone upgraded from the Gen 1 compressor to the Gen2 yet?

Only if you rebuild it.. Which is most of the time :-(.

Put it in a box. Inquire by email if not by phone, but mute than likely they'll remachine the cover and or in their Gen2 wheel. I doubt I'd they want to give you the Gen1 even if you wanted one.

I'm looking at this from a turbo manufacturing perspective. I've never (nor will I ever) dealt with Precision on that level for repair

This will be my 2nd time sending my turbo back to them for repair. First time the seals were shot (covered under warranty at the time) and now this. I'm a little up in the air about buying a new one or having to fork up more money to fix this Precision unit. I'm just hoping the rebuild price tag on this isn't major. They just don't last it seems..?

That is correct.. Unknown what rebuild costs will be. Most don't bother by the second time.

But you can not use metal screens. Durable nylon screens, possibly. Otherwise you need a real filter purr this week just continue to happen regardless of turbo company.

And yes, you can make room if you know what you're doing

Shodan, have you been drinking?

This, boys and girls, is why you don't strap a screen onto your turbo inlet. Properly filter that ****.

Better performance, better filtration, peace of mind

And K&N or something that wont collapse in to the inlet.

That sucks to hear, hope you get it back together in the near future. I was just about to ask about people filtering the turbo inlets & I thought about that screen option.

thanks for sharing the lesson learned, keep us posted on the rebuild!

I ran the same screen on the turbo for 5 years straight. I'm going to send it to Precision and see what the overall damage is. As long as it's under $500 I'll be sticking with it

Only a few, mate... :-)

But I mean a screen only for racing location purpose only.. That is the only reason why I brought it up

Just buy a new turbo off of eBay, it will be of the same quality.

IMO, you only want to run dry filters and ones that have caged ribs on the inside. Unless of course they are specifically rated for turbo use.

For a daily driven turbo car, I'm a huge proponent of using that funny S shaped pipe a lot of piping kits have, or using some other kind of pipe to put the filter somewhere away from the turbo. I don't know if it helps or hurts performance, but realistically, it couldn't make more than a 5 WHP difference one way or the other. For an all-out race car? Filter? We don't need no stinkin' filter

There's more to it than just the wheel, if it sucked in a screen.

Has anyone tested OR run the Garrett GTW 6265? Seems to be priced well for a 800whp capable turbo..
