Default 97 civic a/c help

Hello everyone, I have a 97 civic hatchback with the d16y7 in it. The whole car is stock besides being lowered a few inches. 5 speed. My a/c compressor kicks on and off every 10 seconds or so. It all turn on for maybe 30 secs then off then on so on so the a/c never gets completely cold or works properly, it goes hot at idle and when I'm in town shifting through gears its on/off . The only way it doesn't mess up is of I'm at a constant speed on the highway. Now, the condenser fan ki ks on and stays on, the condenser lines are how they should be, hi being hot and low being cold. The relays are fine and tested, could I simply be low on Freon??? Any advice is good ad ice thanks

Hook up a manifold gauge set and performance test the system.

How will that help? I know nothing when it comes to a/c besides what the parts are called and where they are.

Well, based on your response, you're probably best off taking your car to a shop.

A manifold gauge set is a diagnostic tool for A/C systems.

Okay thank you, everything just seems to be fine, relays ,fan is on, condenser seems to be cooling, compressor kicks on just doesn't stay on, from what I read it was stating if the compressor doesn't have enough Freon it will kick off on and. So it doesn't burn itself out, correct me if I'm wrong

This may be an EF lover bias statement, personally I think the ek ac system sucks. My 97 coupés ac isn't functioning properly either. I believe the compressor should be cycling off and on, that's normal. I recently recharged my 88 civic wagons ac, kid you not I didn't change one single o ring, I used an old drier that was outside for a year, I only pulled a vac on it for 20 min, used 1 and a half cans of 134 ( not r12), and the ac blows 40 degrees cold instantly, like a newcar. On the free way it gets to like 36....

That's crazy, honestly if I can't get it to work properly I might just rip it all out. Just takes up room in the engine bay anyways if its useless. I may try another can of Freon, and make sure the compressor is spinning and if that doesn't do the trick, I might even sell the car. I was thinking about selling anyways.

Threatening your car to sell it generally doesn't make the car fix itself.
