50k mi maintenence for DB8?
Sup everyone,
So I've have my 95 DB8 since 2012. When I got it, it had 126k mi. The previous owner had just replaced the water pump and timing belt a couple thousand miles ago when I bought it. Now, i am at 175k. During that time, the only major maintenance work done was a new radiator/t-stat. I am just wondering what I should possibly budget for, and maybe anything I can do/diagnose myself. I regularly change the oil and I can do some other basic things.
recently, I've been seeing some weird issue with the cooling system. Sometimes when I am driving around town, the temp needle will start creeping up to the halfway point. Usually cranking the heat will take care of this. But its weird in that on the hottest days (80+ F) the car will be fine, but recently during a rainy night the car started overheating until I started blasting the heat (which at first wasn't even blowing out hot air, but then it did). This was on a short drive also.
Earlier today I went to the store (5 min drive away) and the car was fine on the way there and back. But through a turn in my neighborhood I stepped on the gas a bit (took it to 4k, going about 40 mph) and then I looked down and the car started overheating. But it cooled within 30 seconds.
I've been hearing some weird belt squeals as well. Not sure how to describe it, except it will stop when I depress the clutch to shift, and when I release the clutch it will start squealing again. Also, when I pop the hood and listen to the engine, it doesnt sound as smooth as when I first got it. I guess the valves need adjusting? It still runs as great as it did the day I bought the car, but I know it definitely needs some love before I go another 50k.

Sounds like you still have air trapped in the radiator/ cooling system, simply bleed the radiator. Or it could be a bad thermostat but you said it was replaced not to long ago. Could also be your fans are not turning on. Look further to see if the fans turn on, If they don't check the wiring and fan sensor next. Also the fuse for the fan in the fuse box located in the engine bay compartment could also have been blown causing the fans to not turn on.
At 50k i would do a valve lash adjustment to check the valve lash as well as address any excessive noises caused by tight valves ect. I do believe its recommended to replace the timing belt and water pump every 50k miles.
