96 lx f23a vtec swap (r.i.p B2)
Start out by saying I have a 1996 accord lx auto and recently blew the original stock f22b2 with 278xxx luckily was 3 block away from home when I happens none the less I decided to go with the f23a vtec was wondering about what I will need as far as wiring, ecu and if I need my obd2 b1 dizzy and intake as well as fuel rail? I have heard a few different things just wanted some knowledgeable input from some who may have done this swap before any help is appreciated.
Thanks-Derek

I used that as a general guide. Some things are different, but it's mostly the same. It's very easy and I've done it in my '97 LX. Basically, remove everything you can from the F22B2 and swap it over to the F23. Swapping the F23 intake manifold is HIGHLY beneficial. I run mine off a 96-97 EX ecu. Using my F22B2 distributor, fuel rail, harness, and just about everything else. Added VTEC wiring and pinned into factory harness. PM me with any questions.
You're a little bit too far for me to drive out there and help, but feel free to contact me just about any time and I'll get you pointed in the right direction. See my build thread(link in signature) for some other details regarding the swap.

Maybe Chrisnick will see this, he has done the swap on his coupe. I currently have an F23A sitting waiting for the funds to be dropped into my 94 LX. If you plan on keeping the F23 intake (which I would recommend), you will need an IAC adaptor.
BlackTrax - Intake Manifold Adapters
I believe that you will want to keep your distributor and coil to use in the F23. You will need to wire up the Vtec solenoid and get the correct ECM. In your case that would be the ECM for a 1996 EX Accord with an auto trans. You can use the original F22b exhaust manifold. Use the original injectors and I believe fuel rail for the car. It really is a very straightforward swap. And by the math I have done, cheaper than putting the F22B2 back in the car. What I found price wise was $700ish for a JDM f22b2, and I got my F23A's for about $250 each.

Awesome thanks for replys guys! currently im in the middle of some crap, But asap Im going to start this swap in my 96 lx auto, Already have the ex harness and ecu for the auto vtec, Was wondering though, Couldnt the B1 intake, fuel rail, and dizzy work for the F23a vtec? or does it only fit the B2 cam key on the distributor?
I think the distributor issue is a wiring harness thing...harness is different for dizzy with internal coil versus external coil. You rrally want to use the f23 intake though...it is worth some power.

isnt the f23a vtec an internal coil? is if so i could just use the B1 dizzy...and Im not sure if i want to buy an adapter plate for the iacv and whatever else you have to fab up..
Yes it is internal coil. If your car has a b2, then it is external coil. You can use that distributor setup on the f23. In order to use the internal coil distributor you will have to use that wiring harness. Just buying the IAC adaptor is really the easiest option, and cheapest. It will keep you from buying an extra intake and sacrificing the power gains of the better flowing F23 piece.
Yeah, I just used my original F22B2/LX harness and added the VTEC wiring, used the LX external coil distributor. I'm not sure about the wiring differences on the harness side of things between the B1/B2's, so I didn't go that route. There might be some extra wires for the VTEC stuff on the body side of the harness that goes to the ECU, which really wouldn't/shouldn't be hard to add at all to an LX. Using the 96-97 B1/EX internal coil distributor may make things a little easier as far as wiring and getting the plug wires in the correct order/length. As it is on my car, I'm using the F23's plug wires and the B2's external coil distributor; I had to flip the 1-3/2-4 plug wire positions on the distributor as the firing order is swapped from the B2 to the F23/B1's, and the plug wire for #3 is a little tight fitting. Maybe I just need a set of plug wires for an F22B1 to fix that issue though.
I have the stock f22b2 in the car as of now still need to drop it out but I also have a spare b1/b2 intake and the ex b1 dizzy as well as the auto vtec harness and ecu just no motor right now
to re interate if i keep the f23 intake and get an adapter all else id have to do is extend the iat wires? thats awesome i may just get the dang adapter piece then..
If you get the BlackTrax adapter, the water hose fittings on the IACV will hit the throttle body. This will have to be dealt with. There are five hoses that connect to the rear of the F22B intake. These will have to be routed to some sort of manifold. The fuel rail on the F22B uses three mounts and the F23A uses two. No problem, just leave off the middle one and use your old rail.
Dear all,
I am very new to Honda-tech. I have civic 2005 Vtec Japan car. Recently I had issue with engine head. My mechanic changed the head with second hand non vtec one. Now as there is no vtec solenoid, I am getting continuous engine light on dashboard. How to bypass this light permanently. What will go wrong if this head is used, car is running normal. The error code is P1253.
Please reply urgently.
Thanks in advance.

On the driver's side of my F22B1 intake manifold plenum there is a metal plate with five fittings for vacuum lines. My F23A1 manifold doesn't have that, so I ran all 5 vacuum lines into a remote connector, and a line from that to the manifold. No big deal, but something else to do.
Odd. I didn't have to do that. My F22B2 manifold also had that 5-port plate but I was able to utilize all the ports on the F23's manifold to work with the F22B2's vacuum/emissions lines and routing.
So guys
I have a 97 accord se coupe with f22b2 wiring harness
now I'm running a jdm f23a engine
I'm using everything from the f22
harness, fuel rail, distributor, full intake manifold
so too make vtec work i know I have to run the wiring from solenoid to ecu
anyone can please tell me where the pinout goes on the ecu for vtec
but does f23 has vtec oil pressure switch or no
can I still used my OEM egr valve or have to swap to f22b1
Can I run a f22b1 ecu
or witch ecu I can used
By the way i have auto tranny
