Default 2007 Honda Civic Si- Dead-end hose from crankcase breather?

Hello everyone,

I was checking the oil on my 2007 Honda Civic Si the other day, and happened to notice a very short hose off the crankcase breather with a clamp on the end of it that went to nowhere. I have never noticed it before, and do not know how long it's been this way, or where this hose originally went. I have a picture but am not yet able to attach here.

If anyone can tell me where this should go (preferably with a picture showing the attachment point for the other side), it would be much appreciated. I would also be curious to know the function of this hose, and what impact it may have on engine performance.

I have noticed that last winter my car started to take much longer to crank than it did previously. This does not seem to be a factor with the warmer weather now. Could this be related?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Longer crank times in the winter is normal and is attributed to cold batteries and thicker oil.

As for the hose, a pic would be required to identify the line and it's possible terminus.

from what I can see in diagrams ( unless you're talking about the valve cover to intake breather hose, which would just reach back over and on to the intake) it looks like there is a PCV valve Junction of some sort. I would just stick my hand down there and feel for a loos part or an open plastic niple where it would connect.

but, as 97emsedan said, a pic is vital for outsourcing a technical Opinion.

Hi again, and thanks for your responses. This will make my second post, so as soon as the 5 day period is up, I will be able to put up the picture, and that should make it clear.

For the longer starting time in winter, I had heard that about the battery, but as the car seemed to be turning over fine, that reasoning did not make sense to me. I mean, it was not noticeably dragging, just took a lot more revolutions before it would fire. This problem had never occurred before last season. My battery is from 2010, so maybe it's seen its better days, but I would have expected to hear some dragging?

I have experienced a lag in fireing time when its just rained ie: high humidity, when the battery is low/old, when the plugs are old, and when I pulled a motor-to-chasis wire off working on things. Ground "straps" are just that, its a grey-ish metal rope and are always right there in sight on the right and left of a motor and if a vacuum hose got pulled off chances are something else did to. Plugs are always the first thing I change when I get a car and there is only 4 so its a cheep thing to try and only makes things better. OEM ngk plugs are really good ones and seem to last the longest. Any one of these things can accentuate another problem so all you can really do is start with one and work you way around the motor.

I just replaced my battery last December. I too have a 2010. The OEM factory installed batteries are good for about 5-6 years. You would consider getting it changed soon.

Yahoo, I can post a picture now! Here's a picture showing the dead-end hose & clamp circled in red. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for the other end

It looks like that is a second evap line from the valve cover to the intake. On my Si it collects vapours through the twinned steel lines you see right there and pulls them into the intake stream at the throttle body.

I will shoot a pic and put it up here.

Indeed that was it! Not sure how I missed that open line end, but I did. Thanks a lot for the help and the picture. I will monitor performance now to see if I note any difference, although the cold weather start problem won't be able to be tested for 6 months yet.

Thx again for your assistance!
