Icon6 Bad CV Joint/Axle? Clicking Noise, No Noise Neutral

My car makes a loud ticking when taking left turns (a little noise when going right) The noise sounds like revving a car with no oil to 4000rpm (like a loud valve tick)

Anyway there is NO NOISE at all when I take a corner in NEUTRAL...I am confused because isn't the axle still moving?...

The trans is kinda messed up already (no 5th or 3rd gear, just grinding noise and slipping when in them)

The noise sounds like it coming from the axle, but maybe a bad trans is causing it...?

Please give any insight!

Yes, axles. 200k is about 50k over when they usually start goin out.

You can get OEM, or get them from a parts store that has lifetime warranty on them. Mine come from the place that starts with an O' but I think "AZ" has them too

Also, lots of good writeups on installation here, and in the FAQ.

But it makes NO NOSIE in neutral...

The axle is still moving, right? I can turn like i normally do and nothing...

My mechanic friend said it would still make the noise in neutral if it was a bad CV axle...is he wrong?

Could a bad transmission cause a noise like this..?

It makes no noise in neutral because it has no load on it.
Put a load on it and the noise returns.

The noise could be something in the trans but sounds unlikely, due to the fact that it changes with turning direction.Like Mike said, try loading and unloading them and see if the noise changes. Most likely if you snap the throttle while turning the noise will change with the load.

Normally its the axle with the boot torn that is the suspect axle.
