got my car from paintshop and it kinda looks like sht. besides uber shitty body work the clear coat doesn't look anything like Dupont that he said he would use.
they buffed it about 3 times already since it was painted( had to bring it back to fix things)
but once the was and buffing faded away the clearcoat looks like spraycan . its not orange peel its just very fine texture very similar to what you see on Teflon coting.
is that a sideffect of waterbased paint or urethane or is it something that is related to poor mixing or cheap clear coat?

Yeah it does look like cheap clear and just an overall bad job. What did you pay? You can try to sand and buff that out though. Sand flat with 2000 and use a compound and a high speed buffer. It will come out.

It was a trade. For installs. No money involved.
I just wanted to see how good the paint is cuz my work will depend on how good the paint comes out... that was the deal.

the first comment is irrelevant. You dont shoot primer and not sand it back down dummy. Primer is used to fill small imperfections. YOU BLOCK IT BACK DOWN! anyways. I think they lied to you. If they used dupont and cut and buffed it than it should be good. Although, did they only rubbing compound it? because with that color you need to buff with machine glaze and ultrafine. If it is a good clear even nason, you could make it shine and look good. Maybe theyre just ******* you along because you arent actually putting money in their pocket.

that's what I think. i mean he could show me a can of melted wax for all i know.
clear coat is a clear coat to me.
he show me the basecoat which was DuPont but i don't know if he actually used it or just had it for another car or if it was even real DuPont paint and not his own mix in a DuPont can lol

who knows, if we lived close i'd come check it out and tell you, they could have just shot the basecoat really grainy and got dry spray on the basecoat and the clear really is smooth and flat but the base is grainy under it causing the weird look.
i once paid for a paint job where the guy used dupont base coat and NASON clear. he of course, charged me the price of dupont base and clear. i was shopping around a few shops and this particular shop gave me a good deal promising dupont paint and clear. i thought i was getting a good deal until the car was finished, looked crappy, than found out he used NASON clear which is own by DUPONT. SIGH! wonder if this happen to you OP?
