Thinking bout a cheap/MAACO paint job? Think again.
***aparently i shoulda put this up earlier, i just used MAACO as a general name for a cheap paintjob. this car might have been painted by maaco, it might not have, i dont know. all i know is it was cheap.***
Ok, so i picked this 92 hatch up about a year ago, it was in really bad condition. I decided i was going to build it up to something nice...not fast, not too flashy. Just save it from its inevidable trip to the junk yard.
After all the work i put into it i finally got to the body shop for some paint.
we just sanded down the old clear with a DA and 320 grit sandpaper and it should act like a sealer so you dont have to prime the whole car. The paint was going to be milano red with a black hood/roof and some other things.
Well, we painted my hood...and my roof. Once the Heat hit it the hood peeled up like a damn overcooked pizza. The reason for this...CHEAP CLEAR COAT!!!
The clear coat that is on the car (metal flake crap) came off like damn window tint. we had the whole hood, new paint and all peeled off in 10 mins. The roof did not peel, but im sure it will very soon.
so now im stripping the clear off the entire car. It sucks because it takes more time. However, this **** is soo easy to peel off its unreal.
here is a video and some pictures (yes you can make fun of my redneck voice i dont care)
so here is whats happning...its a nice little video for you all
***VIDEO***
Chances are, my roof is going to peel, so more than likely i will be stripping that paint off, and just going milano red over the whole car.
BTW the fenders/hood/bumper are all at the shop, they are brand new, the ones on the car are temporary

you see, i would have done so, but we didnt know the old paintjob was a cheap job. it looked fine.
good thing we just did the hood/roof first, or we would have had to scrape the ENTIRE car and buy another gallon of paint.

i just posted this to show you guys why you should get a good job done, at a reputable shop...or do it yourself.
i dont wanna see others go through the same **** i have too go through now. Live and learn i guess.
i wont make this mistake in the future, and hopefully nobody else will
just goes to show you dont know what the person who owned the car before you did to it, so just assume it was shitty

That and maaco is franchised. So just like any other body shop is different, every maaco is more or less different.

Maaco in my personal experience was good. i had my car painted black in July when i first bought my car down in Florida. I got it done at the Maaco shop in Orlando. but i guess the place ur car was painted half-assed on ur car. and yeah i guess all Maaco shops are different. The car is now still in good condition and paint still looks fresh. so its the place u go to

I agree with you, I had my paint done at maaco in 8-2006
and it's still going good.

Maaco is a place you go if you plan on selling your car the next week. I took my truck there a few years back. It came out looking pretty good, it was cheap, and they fixed most of the rust... but it bubbled in a couple months in places. So I would only go back if I wanted a quick job to sell the car.

If your asking about my paint job, I think its a stage 1 paint job. 300$ from maaco. I paid 1600$ b/c I had them to do all my bondo work, when they do bondo they give you a 2 year warranty on the paint and bondo.

x2. Most people i see that have shitty paint jobs by Maaco buy the base stuff and get it done as cheap as possible. If you pay for it, they'll do all the prep work properly along with using proper materials. This is my experience at least with my local Maaco.

well i guess it does depend on what package you get and other things.
just to clear it up, i dont know if this car had a maaco job or not...it was just real cheap clear
the old base is stuck really well, it doesnt peel off.
there is a possibility that they let the base dry too long before spraying the clear over it.
i just assume that it was done at a place like maaco, somehwere cheap.
and yes ekris that paint loks just fine (and i like the meshies on it)

So you just blindly talk **** about a company without knowing for sure they were the ones that were at fault?
