94 civic ex trans noise
Hello, trying to diagnos a noise that I started hearing today. I replaced the throw out bearing and I put shaft bearing about 1 year and 15k miles ago. There are no noises when the clutch is engaged or disengaged, however it has become hard to put the car I to gear. With the clutch disengaged (pedal down) attempting to put in gear there is a whining noise. It does it with any gears and has become progressively louder. Going to bleed the system in the morning and see if it helps. If not what do you guys think it is? Could it be a bad clutch?
With the car running, there is no noise with the clutch engaged. When I simply disengage the clutch by pushing pedal down there is still no noise, however when I go to put it in any gear, it is hard to do and it makes the noise.
Well I bled the system and that didn't help at all. Could it possibly be the master cylinder? If it's weak and not disengaging the clutch all the way?
Check that you dont have more than an inch of clutch free play. If you do adjust it and see if helps. Its possible if the mc locknut isnt tightened down that over time the rod will back out and create too much free play and when you push the pedal down you wont get enough travel to fully disengage the clutch.
I suppose its possible you have too little free play and its stressing the throw out bearing.

I put a new master cylinder in and it went into gear with no issues at all. I tried my best to have it the same length as the previous mc. Drove it about 40 miles or so and it started back up with the noise. I'll have to try and adjust the rod/lock nut tomorrow.

Ok so I adjusted the rod and it seemed to be fine. It would intermittently make the noise. I notice now that it is fine for city driving, but after driving on the highway for a while it gets hard to put in gear and makes the noise again. Any ideas?
There must be a bad bearing in the tranny. Bearings, when they go bad, show most of their issues as they heat up and expand. Since it's happening with the car moving I would guess either the countershaft or the differential has one or more bad bearings.
Either a rebuild or a junkyard tranny is in order.

Pulled the trans last night. One of the springs came out of the clutch. It was just laying between the clutch and the pressure plate. New clutch will be going in this evening. jdm_special had it right from the get go. I was just hoping for an easy fix I guess. Well easier, not like it's that hard to do a clutch on these things. Thanks for the input guys!
New clutch is in. Shifts smooth and quietly. There is an annoying fast paced squeak while the car is running in neutral. It goes away if the pedal is barely pushed in. Also, the clutch engages very close to the floor. Going to try and adjust pedal in the morning to see if that helps get rid of the squeak and raise the engagement point. While adjusting the rod should I turn it towards the fire wall or the pedal?
