dented /bottomed out downpipe options?

Default dented /bottomed out downpipe options?

99 d16y7 turbo ;downpipe is exit on passenger side.my downpipe is dented due to bottoming out ..a speed bump in assuming.happened b4 i bought car.its on the bottom of downpipe and is around 5"long and 1"-0.5".am i best to get that section cut out and welder to fix? or buy a new downpipe? im in canada so shipping is expensive on all the online downpipes....

You could take it to a competent exhaust shop, and have them build you a new one. It'll probably end up cheaper than buying one online. Or...you could just not worry about it.

that was my first thought but after calling around ..not may people in my area to repair it...im on vancouver island not socal lol.id forget about it if it was purely visual ..itd still bug me but id heat wrap it n carry on but its definetly cramping performance. ..

Unless you already have a pointlessly restricted exhaust, that little dent isn't hampering performance in any way that your butt dyno can tell. You'll gain more from a basic tune-up than you would from fixing that.

That said, if you really want to fix it, you can use a small drill to drill holes, then use a tool to pop it out, like you would a dent in a body panel. Then just have an exhaust shop drop a bead of weld over the holes to patch them. It won't look pretty (and who cares, it's under the car), but it'll get the job done.

As stated above, plus,maybe raise the car enough to help avoid the issue again?

you can cap both ends, put an air chuck fitting on one end, hook it to compressed air and heat the dent.

between softening the metal with heat and the compressive force of the air it will pop most dents out almost entirely

And without properly regulating the air pressure, you've also just made a pipe bomb
