Icon2 90 B18A1 Code 14

I hate to bring this up because I know it's covered at length but I've been trying to fix it for over a year now. Could use any help.
90 Civic hatch with 90 B18A1
New head gasket, thermostat, water pump

I've tried 2 different IAVC's, both of which I ran semsor safe cleaner through in a parts washer for 24+ hours.

I've checked my vacuum lines over and over again.

I get a code 14 within a few seconds of starting the engine. The idle is pretty smooth but at partial throttle it bounces up to about 3k where it smooths out again.

Just wondering if it's possible that I damaged them by cleaning them? Can these possibly fail so badly that cleaning doesn't fix them? Anyone eliminated their IACV? :D Also is there anything else that could cause a code 14 somehow... Like I said I know this is a common question. and I've read every thread I can find about it... Still haven't had any luck fixing it!

It's driving me crazy and makes my car undriveable, I just finished installing my water pump today and fired her up, hoping it would make a difference somehow... nothing :S

Thank you all, I've had my hatch for like 10 years and I just wanted her to go fast, but my swap has been anything but... I guess I'm not meant to be a mechanic... but I keep ordering parts for some reason!

Thanks again and please give your 2 cents!

Out of curiosity, did you reset the ECU between swapping the IACs? It's possible for the IACV to be dead.
I'd recommend going over to honda hookup and grabbing a manual for a 90-93 integra and following the troubleshooting methods. Very easy to follow.

I have tried resetting the ECU before, I should probably try again... (Since the water pump)
Hoping to find an IACV locally... for some reason they've gone up to like $500 at the parts store and I have no idea why...
Also I should mention that I'm not sure my thermostat is actually opening, my coolant temp gague doesn't work as an added bonus... I'm wondering if my ECU is f'd as someone suggested in another thread on the topic.
Thanks!

I'm working through a lot of the same problems right now. My temperature sending unit wasn't working, so I just replaced that, the fan switch, and the temperature sensor to be safe. (That was like $25, rockauto) I'm waiting on my thermostat to come in from Honda now. (~$20)

To troubleshoot all of that we used one of those infrared temp sensors to check the temps on the top hose, bottom hose, and the head itself. This insured that the sending unit (for the gauge) was at least reading the right resistance.

It would be worth while to try to find someone with an OBD0 ECU and swap out for 20 minutes.

Thanks, I'll have to look into the temp sending unit and such as well just to make sure its all good...

I'm trying to find another ECU as I think it might be the culprit, I guess I'll have to wait and see!
THanks again!

Pick n pull, saturday mornings, grab a Timmies
Scored 2 more filthy IACV's today... and a PR4 Ecu from a 91 5spd!
Along with the 2 ECT's under the dizzy... which are also filthy

Tried the new ECU. At first the car actually ran worse, wouldnt stay running. Had to give er some gas to keep er going. (This has happened before when starting in the cold). I let her run, added some coolant... Once she's warmed up, the idle is smooth. I'm not really sure how long I need to wait for the thermostat to theoretically open... ? I think it's a 180* tstat.

I'm still not getting any coolant temp reading on the gauge, even after letting the car run for 5-10 mins with me revving it a bit. I replaced the thermostat last summer and I'm wondering if it was a dud, and/or there's air in the system which I guess would then be trapped?

Just did some reading up and I'm seeing that the FITV can also cause a code 14... Looking at possibly deleting my FITV... Who needs that ****?

If it wasn't mothers day tomorrow I'd probably be working on my car but I gotta go have dinner with your mom

Nice...

I used a piece of a beer can I cut up and some hondabond to delete my FITV. Stuck it between the FITV and TB, bolted it all back up. Really painless.

Glad someone appreciated my mom joke lol

That sounds awesome, did you notice any improvement? What about an iacv block off? I might try the fitv first and see what happens... Sounds like a good after work project!

IACV will definitely throw codes and make the car run bad, unless you have a tune.

Holy ****... If anyone doesnt believe that Murphy s Law is real, I invite you to work on my car with me... Sometimes I am amazed I ever pursued automotives as a hobby...

I made a nice block off plate for the fitv, then proceeded to break a bolt off in the manifold. Tried to hacksaw a line in it and unscrew it with no luck.

Went and got some bolt extrCtors and broke one off in the hole.

Lost my temper, contemplated burning my garage to the ground and collecting insurance.

In the end I had to drill and tap anpther hole into the manifold... Gaaaad i was planning it all day and it seemed so simple and like it wouldve turned out so nice.... I forgot I was gonna be the one doing the work

Well I didnt want to somehow **** it up worse so I didnt even try to start it... Gonna let the silicone set up and see how she runs tomorrow...

Fml!!! Im praying to the car gods tonight... Let my ******* car finally work!!!!!!!
