Default Ostrich not connecting to ECU

I have an Ostrich 1. The troubleshooting specifically for version 1 is pretty hard to come across but I did find some things.

The jumpers seem to be in the correct spots- both at 28. I can load a bin onto it using crome and can grab the crome via the ostrich and through my burn 1.

However, I cannot get it to work when I connect it to the ECU. Eprom chips work just find but the ostrich will just throw a CEL and run as if there was no chip.

Any ideas? I'm not sure if its the connection to the socket but I'm not sure how to test that.

What are your settings in CROME?

I enable datalogging and remove checksum. Theyre the same basemaps I use on the eprom chips that work. Is there something special I need to do for ostrich?

Yes, which Protocol and Baud rate are you trying? It can even be picky about which COM port. Read the help manuals out there by Xenocron or VegasInvasion or one of the others. There are many to choose from.

As far as those go, I can't quite recall immediately but i did go through Xenocron's manual for the settings. They seemed correct as everything connected just fine in crome. And I am able to pull the basemap up by connecting the ostrich to my burn1. Wouldn't I have trouble getting the basemap onto the ostrich in the first place if the port settings were incorrect?

On the ostrich plug, did u make sure that it's installed into the ecu with the red line on the ribbon cable facing the side of ecu with the plugs?

Take a picture of the ostrich connected into the ECU and screen shot of the settings in crome. ( ctrl + print screen) then open paint and goto edit-paste, and it will paste the screen shot into paint...

Yup, the cable is in the correct direction. I'll take a screenshot soon.

Heres my set up. Everything seems correct and I'm able to write on the ostrich, verify, and even pull the bin up through the 28pin connector side using my burn1. It just doesn't work when I connect it to the ECU.

As suggested review the Crome documentation written by VegasInvasion. The COM settings he recommends are different than yours.

Great, Ill check it out- I was following these instructions
Crome Tuning DIY, Chipped VTEC ECU, Conversion (Jumper) Harness, Hondata K-Pro, Ostrich, Demon | jdmsci.com

Thanks

Edit:

I should mention that I've found that Ostrich 1 requires a different baud rate than ostrich 2. If I try another, Crome will default to the one that works regardless.

But is it likely that there's an error on the PC to Ostrich end even though everything seems to work well? The ostrich should work when disconnected from the pc and just connected to the ECU correct? I know there is a bin loaded on there.
