Car wont start after replaceing AT transmission
Hey Guy I have a 1993 honda accord EX. I just finished putting in a new A/T transmission and now it wont start. Well the trans is used not new, but what would cause it not to start? Thanks
Yes the smaller wire is connected to the left or back terminal and the big wire coming from the battery is connected to the right or front terminal

Is the car in Park fully? If the console switch is not register 'P' on the dash then the car will not start. Try moving the shifter to 'N' and see if the car starts.
Yeah this is a big determining factor when troubleshooting a no start, is the starter engaging the drive plate? Is the engine turning over? You've put a meter on the starter signal wire and you said your getting 12 volts?
Ok lets go back to the starter there are 2 hook ups the bigger from the battery and the smaller starter wire. Where do you hook those up on the starter the positive or negative? and Lost again i turn the key and nothing happens. Actually, the power to the radio and some dash lights go out and I can hear a high pitch humm. Sounds like it is coming from the idle control

If your car used to start and now doesn't after a transmission swap, then you can rule out alot of things but you've clearly missed something. There should be a roughly 6in long ground strap connecting the body to the transmission, that one is important.
yeah starter reads 12v and the trans ground that comes off the negative side battery is connected. Does both the starter wire and big battery wire go to positive 12mm starter terminal?
And lets just say the car is not fully in park. How would you fix the problem? It locks so the car doesn't roll back with emergency brake off.
This is an unfused, direct link to the battery.
The smaller wire/terminal on the starter solenoid is fed from a wire that is ONLY HOT when the key is turned to the III(START) position. With a voltmeter attach your hot lead to that terminal and then turn the key to START. If no voltage is present then I would suspect the ignition switch contacts may be worn.
There is a console switch, which is on the side of the shifter. If the P on the dash is lit when in park it should be fine, however the contacts can become gummed up. You can try pulling the shifter all the way back to D1 and then back up to Park to see if that works or wipes the contacts. Also try placing the shifter in neutral, the starter should work in N as well.
One thing of note, although batteries are called 12Volt, if actually voltage is 12 Volts it is considered dead. A fully charged battery should be 12.4 Volts, below this it is considered discharged.
I got it started but I still cant start it with the key ignition. I start it by putting an alligator clip on the starter wire and touch the other end to the positive battery post. What are the possible causes and possible solutions?
also I have an issue with the transmission that i just installed, it makes a lot of noise. At first, I thought it just needed the fluid to circulate, but fluid levels are at the top of the cross lines and the loud fiction noise still exsist. What could possibly be causing that?
