rebuilt my distributor and have a question...
Hey guys,
I just finished building a distributor for my R, the original distributor was throwing the code for the crank position sensor and was filling up with the "red dust of death" that is well known in the Honda world when the distributor bearing bushing starts failing.
I'm not sure if the sensor was throwing the code because of the all the buildup inside, maybe causing the senor to go bad or maybe even confusing the sensor? I had 5 old non working Honda distributors from various models collected over the years, I used all the appropriate parts that work for my car, (VTEC obd2 sensors and wiring harness, VTEC ignition coil, and original control module, gsr distributor housing and shaft) I stripped all of them down salvaging the good parts, I built a distributor mixing all the parts that were good.
My question is, now that it's complete I was turning the distributor with my fingers and there is no notchy "clicking" sensation (no actual audible clicking, but the sensation of clicking) that I have felt on every other Honda distributor I recall turning with my fingers.
It just turns without the notchy feeling, but in the past I would feel it going through small even notches the whole time it turned, and as far as I can recall they have always had that same feeling. I haven't tried turning a brand new distributor so I can't use that as a comparison.
Is it supposed to feel notchy? Or is it turning freely OK? Everything was cleaned and installed back properly.
The only problem is my car is parked at my parents so I can't try the distributor for a couple more days but am dying to know if did something wrong.
