Battery Light doesn't work (solved)
I have a 93 ex coupe with the d16z6.
The battery warning light never comes on when I turn the key to the ON position. I pulled the cluster yesterday and replaced the bulb (74), reassembled and turned the key on, still nothing. I replaced the socket with the one from the oil pressure warning light (which works) and still nothing.
What's next?
Thanks for reading

I bought it a few weeks ago, it never occurred to me that it wasn't lighting up.
I lost the alternator belt earlier this week, I drove it to the parts store and put 3 new belts.
Afterwards I realized that the light had never come on and concluded that the bulb must be burned out.
But it has never come on since I've had the vehicle.

Check with a multimeter whether the socket for the charging system bulb in the printed circuit board receives battery voltage from fuse 24 and whether it receives ground from the alternator.
I checked the connector at the alternator, it's got a lot of dielectric grease on it, but otherwise it seems to be in good condition and clicks on the alternator firmly.
So turn the key to ON, check for voltage at the socket.
I don't understand how to check for ground from the alternator?

I took another look at the cluster the other day.
So the bulb has to contacts.
The positive side is coming from the eld?
And the negative grounds through the alternator?
Reading your post tells me I did my tests incorrectly the other day.
I'm doing these tests at the contacts for the bulb socket?

Charging system warning light in cluster:
(+) from fuse 24 or fuse 12.
(-) from alternator (Wht/Blu wire)
Do tests with key in ON(II)/engine off.
Did you already replace the bulb or swap with a known good one in the cluster?

I have swapped the bulb holder with the oil pressure light and have verified that both are in good working order.
I still have to redo my tests to check for voltage and continuity to ground.

After reading the service manual I grounded the warning light wire at the alternator connector and concluded that the alternator was the issue.
I have installed a new one and now have a properly functioning warning light.
Thanks for all your help, Ron!
