Default td42u dizzy with an unchipped P06

I own a 95 EX Coupe with a D16Z6 motor that my son-in-law installed a couple of years back. I've been driving it as my work commuter, but I do like to go fast every once in awhile. I recently discovered that the dizzy is not the original and neither is the ECU. I know the VTEC doesn't work because of this so I'm heading in the direction of getting these things in order, as well as take care of a nasty dizzy oil leak. I have recently purchased an OEM TD-42U dizzy and that brings me to my question. If I install the TD-42U, will the unchipped P06 ECU run it correctly, minus the VTEC? I know I need to chip the P06 or buy a P28 ECU to make the VTEC kick in, but for now, I'd like to stop the oil leak and stab the new dizzy I bought if it will work. You guys are the gurus, lemme know what ya think.

You need the correct ECU.

So, my solution is to either chip the P06 or buy/trade for the P28, correct?

What does the Distributor have to do with the ECU? That is dependant on the head and the OBD you are running. You need an OBD1 ECU that matches the head (and its functionality)

So I suppose the P06 OBD1 ECU is compatible with my cylinder head since I've been running the motor with it for 2 years now. This makes me think the TD-42U would work but that it would not kick in the VTEC, which I've been living without all this time.

The distributor does not control VTEC. you need a P28 or compatible ecu chipped to run the vtec. Additionally if the car did not come with the VTEC enabled you will have to run wiring back to the cabin of the car and connect it to the appropriate pins on said new new/chipped ECU

If it's indeed a 95 EX the vtec wiring is already there at the shock tower.

the internals are all the same for the d and b series dizzys afaik

it will run, just without vtec until you get the proper ecu

the oil leak is usually just the o ring on the distributor unless its in side the cap

It is a 1995 EX 2dr. Coupe w/ABS, 4 wheel disc brakes, and a 5 speed manual. As far as I can tell, I am the 3rd owner. The PO somehow had hydrolocked the motor and I am not sure how the P06 or the incorrect dizzy got into the mix. The D16Z6 came from a '95 HB that my son-in-law removed to replace with a B18. Long story short, I'm trying to get it back to it's former original condition at this point since it was made with a D16Z6 powerplant originally.
If I'm getting all this correct, the TD-42U will work with the P06 but, in it's present form, the P06 ECU will not engage the VTEC.
Now, all I need is someone who can chip the P06 locally and I'd be in business.

That's exactly what I've been looking for. I am pretty sure the leak is just the O-ring so That should all be fixed by stabbing the TD-42U with a new OEM O-ring. It will still run, be bolted by 3 bolts instead of 1, and stop the leak until I can get the correct ECU to run the VTEC.
I guess I'm in the market for a virgin 5 speed P28 ECU.
