Which Way from here? advice truly needed
Hey all, Its been quite some time since I've posted here hope the community is doing well. I am still rockin' and rollin in my 92 Accord through undergrad and current mileage is about 320,000 (with jdm engine swap at 290,000)
This past winter break I replaced:
-Timing Belt, Water Pump, Valve Cover Gasket, Master Cylinder, Brakes all around, Outer Tie Rod, Battery, Fuel Filler Neck Assembly
Throughout the years, I've pretty much replaced everything think I can think of except for the transmission which is still strong, distributor, thermostat, radiator, cooling fans and fuel pump.
Currently, the car is running hot.
It may either be my thermostat or cooling fans. The cooling fans did not kick in when it turned it off after running hot. I'm kind of growing weary of the pop up repairs and the fact that the car is not even worth what I've poured into it with all the body damage and rust. Sometimes, I desire a something nicer with less frequent issues But, I have a sentimental attachment and a huge investment in this car.
How much more will I have to go through with this thing before I can get it back running how a Honda should? I feel like it would be pointless to buy a another used car with over 100k only to have to start over with all the things I have done to this one the past 4 years. I'd just really appreciate some real outside perspective from you all at this point.
I know I sound all over the place! yall help me please!
Thanks in advance,
Al Ace

Well, I too drive an old honda. Albeit, not as old as yours. My 97, has about 183K and i drive it everywhere. I bought it with 150K, and a blown head gasket. With over 320K though, I would imagine you getting nickle and dimed with repairs all the time.
However, if you drop 2500 on a 96 or 97, with maybe 150K. And its been taking good care of(You know what I am talking about). Then you can expect a few good years of driving, I would say.

if the fans aren't working Id start at the plug and make sure it isn't broke.. unplug them and check that the wires are snug in connector. Id also check the resistance across the temp sensors.. locate the correct temp sensor.. I believe I have 3 on my 96 accord
Worst come worst, you can always use an auxiliary fan wiring kit. They sell adapters that splice into a rad hose to hold a thermosensor, you could control the fan with that. Assuming the fan still kicks on when you give it 12v.
find the radiator fan switch sensor plug and put a paper clip through it. the fans should turn on. if they do check the fan switch (sensor) and if they do not then check the relay and fan motors themselves
Not one person gave out actual advice.
OP, check that the fans are actually running when the car starts to overheat. This is the first thing you should be doing.
If not, turn the key on without starting the car and disconnect the fan switch at the passenger side at the thermostat housing and use a paperclip to jumper the connector. The fans should turn on. If they dont then report back here. If they do then you need a new thermo switch A from Honda.

No way - look at some of the other recent posts. Way more understanding/knowledge than that user ever posted.
To the OP - re-check the coolant level. Sounds like they might not have removed all of the air from the coolant system when they did the work. If the coolant system is full and no trapped air in it, a new t-stat from the dealer does not cost that much.
