Default D16Y7 to a 94 del Sol

This is a bit unusual but it's what i have. 1994 del sol with a bad D16Z6 and a practically free D16Y7 out of a 99 Civic. The intention is to drop the Y7 in while making as few changes to it as possible. My question is, will this work? Dizzy, harness, exhaust/intake from the Z6 straight onto the Y7. VTEC to non VTEC.

Swap over the intake and exhaust manifolds including injectors, alternator and distributor (although onMy one the legs will line up). The P28 will throw two codes for VTEC solenoid and pressure switch. Trans will bolt up fine. Swap the mount bolted to your block on the timing belt side of the motor. You'll have an extra sensor by the crank, just ignore it.

I've checked out the head on the Z6 engine and it looks good. If I use a Y7 head gasket and bolts, could I then keep the Z6 manifolds and dizzy and effectively make it like a straight swap?

Yes but the head bolts are a little weird. You will have to use one z6 head bolt in the top left corner and the rest y7 or vice versa. Can't remember

It seems to be the bolt closest to the VTEC solenoid. Which timing belt fits this, or are they the same?

Yep the top left. Timing belt would be a t224 y7 or z6 timing belt but make sure you use the y7 crank pulley as well for correct timing marks...

No problem .. It's a very easy swap so you'll knock it out quick with the right tools. Good luck

It's the bearings.

That was the first Honda engine I've removed, not too bad. Reassembly tomorrow.

Oh don't forget, the driver side post mount needs to be swapped as well.

Thanks. Spotted it when i compared the two. It's in and mostly hooked up. Maybe life tomorrow. Can anyone tell me why the pass side mount bolt comes out toward the front and not the rear? It's a pain to get in and out.

Got it all hooked up. I swapped the thermostat housing because the Y7 has two different sized hose outlets. I made the mistake of swapping the connecting pipe because of the position of the little Y pipe on it. I say it was a mistake because I mangled the o-ring and coolant came pouring out when I filled it.

I tried starting it late Sunday. It cranks fine but won't start. I'm not hearing any noise from the fuel pump so that may be another issue. We'll see. I do appreciate all the help!

Interesting thing to do on the thermostat housing.

You're probably missing a ground wire somewhere. Double check that.

Just in case anyone looks this up, here's how it all turned out. The Z6 head I was going to use turned out to be no good. I ended up with the exhaust gasses blasting through the cooling system.

This became a straight up B16Y7 swap. I used the original Z6 intake and exhaust and have had no problems with either. I had to go with a Y7 dizzy and some splicing to make it fit electrically. It really was an easy swap, def something an amateur can do with a good tool kit and a hoist.

Once again, I really appreciate all the help from the forum.
