Default d16z6 rebuild questions

Hello everyone i have a 93 del sol si. It has a d16z6 with I/H/E I plan on turboing my car in the next year but I was wondering can i build it for a mild turbo and run it N/A for a while. My goal is 250 hp if so what are some recommendations. The reason im asking is I plan on rebuilding my motor because it needs a few things. I don't have money to build the motor and turbo kit now. so my choices are rebuild with oem or rebuild with upgrades and turbo kit later.

Sure you do.

It's the "I want to rebuild my engine for turbo, but I don't have the turbo parts (and might never). Can I rebuild it for turbo and just run it N/A for now? If yes, do all the legwork for me and tell me exactly what to buy so I don't have to lift a finger myself" quetion.

we need some better info on the budget and time constraints.

cheap, fast, and good. pick 2. seeing what you've said so far, for a build like yours it will require lots of time if you want your rebuild to be worth a crap.

check my rebuild thread. going on about 6 months now of researching and gathering parts. Wasn't sure what parts i really needed still i started getting into the motor. The further i got, the more i wanted it to be like the motor just came out of the factory.

There are tons of threads discussing the parts to use and their benefits where you can further ask more specific questions.

No one will spoon feed you information here. If you want that, go find a reputable shop and throw them massive amounts of cash and they will do it for you.

Im gonna go ahead and say yes if you build the motor for a turbo but dont have a turbo it will run but its gonna be sluggish without a turbo and probably wont have as much power as it does now. When I commit to a build I try to have at least 75% of my budget figured out before I begin doing anything. I would suggest you do the same.

It's cheap fast and reliable. Pick 2. And why would the car be sluggish? Build it with a higher compression piston than stock.

Just build high compression. It doesn't need low compression for turbo. That's old thinking.

Better to get Eagle Rods, YCP Vitara Pistions, 1000cc injectors, and a better then stock clutch like a CompClutch or XTD stage 3, ARP head studs just incase for a turbo build. Then slowly upgrade from there, ie like a skunk2 or edelbrock intake for better flow...

You will be happier then a pig in **** with a setup like that.

Just never buy Ebay cast headers, heard too much horrific cases of burs not shaved in manufacturing and getting into the turbo.

I myself run a 12.5 to 1 High Comp D16z6 motor, but moving onto to bigger and better with my build of a K20 motor with a K24 head.

If you can, just try and save up for a new motor like a B or K series, hell with a turbo on a z6.

Okay sounds good. I plan on getting Eagle rods. I have arps. Those YCP's in the link any good? Also for turbo what should i do for tuning? hondata crome?

Wow. You are going to go with what this guy said without checking yourself? He really didn't tell you anything. If you researched you would know that.

There is no need to build for low compression for turbo anymore. Unless your tuner is bullshit there is no need for it. But for that matter, building a D-series for high compression is just bulsshit too. Lot's of money to still go slow.

What is your budget? What are your goals? And you need 1000cc injectors for what? Where's the rest of the setup? How are you handling engine management?

So much typical fail going on in this thread right now.

Read up and then come back with a complete parts list to show you understand what you're building. But if you read up you won't have to come back to ask questions.

Forget about YCP/Vitara ****, especially if you aren't going to turbo it immediately. YCP/Vitara **** is for lower compression, which, like grumble has (correctly) stated multiple times, is oldschool thinking. There is absolutely no reason to lower compression with the hardware and technology available at reasonable prices today. If you want to build your motor with affordability, performance, and future power adders in mind, then what you want is a set of Supertech pistons in the 10:1-11:1 CR range, along with Eagle rods.

You also need to go read the FAQ sticky, both in this section as well as the FI section, and stop expecting people to hold your hand through it. If you need a "how-to" for motor building, also feel free to check my build thread - I go in full detail on rebuilding a B18B1, and while some parts and torque values will be different, the process itself is the same.

Bra!!! just rebuild your engine now...run it n/a...wait til you get all the parts you need to boost it...you have to plan it all out first...you cant just jump in hed first and expect it to work perfect...a man with a plan...is what you need to be...its more then just rebuilding it...you have to think about how you going to feed your turbo set up...what injectors to use...what ecu programming, will your rods hold for your boost goals?...is the valve springs ready for boost?...gauges?...your tranny ready for the extra power?etc etc...point is...rebuild it now...plan whaat you want research and research and research...buy the turbo set up, and all related parts...and in the end...you will enjoy a reliable boosted daily driver...this saying never gets old on ANY honda forum..."build it right the first time" or throw it together without the proper planning and blow it up in a few months...
